I would like to know if someone has information as to how fast could one reasonably finish a masters at WGU. I am basically a self educated person, I did not finish high school, but earned a GED many years ago, recently (2002) I went through the Excelsior process to earn my bachelor's in about 4 months in order to get into a teacher certification program. I believe I have most of the knowledge needed for both the masters that interest me. Can you really test out like at Excelsior, or do you actually have to go through the courses, although at your own pace? If the later, how fast can you go through them and what is the process? I am in a situation where I can benefit from a masters degree within the next 12 months or so. I appreciate all the time that knowledgeable people put into the great resource that this website is.
I'm going with CCU for my MBA Given what I have gathered from the board and others enrolled, their Master's programs are quite straightforward. I'm guessing I can finish their MBA program in 15-18 months if I work on it 12-15 hours a week. Looking at starting there by early-May 07 after I complete a couple of more tests. Some Additional Information I just finished the WGU MBA. I found it stimulating and challenging. It took me 18 months to complete. If the two master-level programs are similar it will be a few examinations, several projects, a few papers, and a dissertation. I believe that the WGU teacher's college requires an externship of some kind hosted by a practicing teacher in your area. I'd say that now that I have a feel for it, I could do a WGU masters degree in nine to fourteen months if I was really pushing myself. If you're making up your mind about the school. I'd highly recommend WGU as both my undergrad and graduate work were performed at WGU and were extremely enjoyable. While the school's process has undergone a few changes since I first enrolled in 2004, it has a solid system of testing for competancies and is an excellent school. Given another few years, WGU will be nationally ranked as one of the best online or offline universities in the country. Congratulations on your choice. My experience with CCU has been great. I devote from 15 to 18 hours of study time per week and have been able to average about one course a month with some classes taking a little longer; about 6 weeks. I think your time frame is realistic. You'll find that besides a solid program, CCU also has excellent customer service. Good luck, Pepe

My other choice because of price is Aspen, but WGU being RA will make it easier to get into a doctorate program later on. Thank you for sharing the information. Spyder: I am also starting in May so I can do it full time in the summer (I am a full time school teacher and I am off for a couple of months) Thanks in part to this replies and going over every aspect of this hard decision, I have decided to pursue my masters at WGU.
