Hi teachtech - I'm sorry to say this, but if you have to ask then you probably already know the answer. But that's not enough, is it? The Global College website is owned by HK Wong who also seems to have a strong connection with with this organization, QEEG and Neurotherapy Institute http://www.neurotherapy.org/
When you look at the location you will see two things: 4700 Millenia Blvd in Orlando would appear to be an office building occupied by a number of businesses:
    http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp?formtype=neighborhood&country=US&address=4700%20Millenia%20Blvd&city=Orlando&state=FL&zipcode=32839%2d6013&spurl=0&searchtype=search&cat=&location=gLDXNDnFTXm1%2fayKh0u%2fQZA3V1xAJA8TSmv6yPnE2qzlFI3A09laEbL31W79mTAtbOGYynm967A4f%2f%2fGUzWOCWjkUF7MGUg%2fJVbLbr0LGAessSRsobXl5kOTtzc8nBk8B1iB%2frnqJj03Ra7GNlq%2bDg%3d%3d
You will please note that a number of these seem to be located within Suite #175. I think that I can safely recommend that you look elsewhere.

Well put, Kizmet. And needless to say, "Global College" is not in the CHEA database.

They've been soliciting adjuncts and requesting copies of syllabi prior to interviews, so alot of curiosity about them lately. I was contacted and I had no idea if it was a scam or not.

Not to be confused with the DETC accredited Assembly of God school Global University.

Thanks, that's pretty much what I thought. The red flag for me was the syllabus request. Sounds like they want a bunch of syllabi for writing their own courses and not above stealing from others. At least that was my take but I have a very suspicious mind! However, I have some old syllabi that I wrote and no one uses or has used anywhere so I just might follow through with the phone interview, send an old syllabus for a course they'd never offer, and just see what happens. I used to be a private investigator in my younger days and my curiosity about what goes on and how they handle the interview and hiring process has gotten a good hold. So I have to see what's what!! Should be interesting, to say the least.
    thanks!!

I wouldn't bother. I have been contacted by similar "startups". Basically, they need your name and transcripts so they can apply for a "state" license. Once they get the license, since probably won't have any students, they will never contact you again. The issue is that license applications require name and transcripts of faculty, in addition, they need fancy degrees for their catalogs to send prospect students. The syllabus is so they can create their own programs based on this.

Just look at the web site, they claim to offer IT programs when they cannot even pay for a decent web site.

I will be curious to know the outcome of this interview. My take is that they will ask you to send them your transcripts and sign some forms. After they will send you a contract with the promise to contact you if something comes along.

In fairness, that's not a good sign, but it's also not definitive. The sites for Southeastern University and Keiser University, both regionally accredited, are both lame, while the old one for Kennedy-Western (no longer up) was a great site.

You know, if only the site said that it was a new institution that was in development, that would be okay. Every place starts somewhere. But it doesn't say that.

This reminds me to "American capital university" http://www.acuniversity.us/. They used the same strategy, I responded to an ad that appeared in the chronicle few years ago. It looked like a genuine effort to establish a school, I got interviewed and send transcripts and signed forms. The school vanished few years later. Many feel that opening an online school is a good business since they see the success of phoenix online and devry, they feel that the investment is low as all the staff is hired on a contract basis so there is no fixed overhead and everything can be run from a basement office. What they fail to realize is the Devry and Phoenix spend millions of dollars on advertisement and technology to keep their programs competitive. The barriers of entry seem easy to jump but it is really the marketing that makes a school to work.

Look at schools like Kennedy Western or Preston that with a WY license were able to make millions with the right marketing campaigns. I met once a guy here in Canada with a PhD from Preston University from a Pakistanian branch, the guy applied for a faculty position here in Canada since he thought he had a real doctorate. The marketing that Preston did in Pakistan sold the idea that they were a real American university all with a WY license. I'm pretty sure that Kennedy Western has a lot of foreign graduates that actually think that they got something real based on the marketing ads.

However, by looking at the site, I must say that this school is not so marketing oriented.

Almost certainly they are looking for course syllabi to use in creating their own mill curriculum. They'll send that info to students, have them do the readings and so forth, and whatever they submit, no one will review them...

Or, they will just use the syllabi as material to make it look to prospective students as though they are legitimate when in fact they are not.
