That you can ask that shows your command of Dutch is far better than mine. :) I'm going to guess it's a lottery site?

The Staatslotteij is one of the largest lottery providers here in The Netherlands.

Unless you actually entered the lottery it seems extremely unlikely that you won it. They're probably trying to get you to pay a fee so you can "collect your money" after which they'll vanish -- a sort of 419 scam.

Excellent point.....kozen, put some of that numbers-crunching education to work, and figure the odds of winning a lottery you didn't enter. :p

I think everyone has figured out the Nigerian Royal Family scheme by now, so why not move operations to a nice, friendly country that everyone would want to trust?

I occasionally get professional looking e-mails, supposedly from banks, from e-bay, from pay-pal or whatever, saying that there's some problem with my account (I almost never have an account), that they are waiting to release money to me or whatever. All I have to do is go to another page that asks me to log-in or "verify" myself, by entering all of the information needed to clean out any accounts that I reveal.

    It's a classic online con-game.

My guess is that this "Staatslotteij" e-mail directs Kozen to a webpage that looks totally official, hosted by some anonymous off-shore webhosting service on a remote fly-infested island somewhere with no discernable law enforcement.

OK, so here's the best advice I've offered since I started warning people about Columbia State University seven years before the authorities did anything about them.

    www.snopes.com

Bookmark it. Put it on your menu bar. Stick a Post-It on your eyeglasses. This is the biggest and most reliable 'debunking' site out there. Whenever something comes up where you need a 2nd or 3rd opinion, go there. Great browsing, too.

Here, specifically, is their detailed commentary on Dutch lottery scams:
"Have you won a foreign lottery you don't remember entering?"

...and an interesting response to this isscam baiting..

Interesting Ethical question arise (e.g. is it ethical to scam the scammer? Or am I no better (or worse)? Or is this just some cheesy Star Trek episode with Jim intoning at all the right inflection points?

One trick that these kind scams do is to say they want to use electronic funds direct transfer to place the funds into your bank account. What people may not realize is that if someone has your bank acount number and the bank routing number they can transfer money in or OUT.
