    HI guys,
I know you'll first think I'm asking the same, but nope. I've been doing loads of research myself first.
NOt much luck, nor help, but never mind.
I would just like ANY possible feedback or information from you if possible.

I'm looking (after going back and forth) for a Master's in psychology (no research, but anything counseling or other) english-thaught in Europe!

There's a lot out there and most are research psychology, which is NOT what I look for and not so much is english-thaught.

So, any advise is more then welcome, since everytime I think I found one, something goes wrong (language or research or....)

It's incredibly difficult, yet, I know what I want and I'll keep searching till I find. I just ask all the help I can get.

    Thanks
    Rachel

    Hi,

The Open University in the UK offers a distance learning Masters in Psychology.

    Good luck!

The OU is not an option as I talked to them several times and they want me to go through 4 years of bachelor before I can enter THEIR masters.
So, here I am with my psychology bachelor, to go through another 6 years? I don't think so, so I excluded the OU from the list.
Thanks though, cause it seems such a good university and I was very dissapointed.

WIth all due respect xygirl you appear to be experiencing significant difficulty in finding and selecting a suitable educational niche for yourself. We offered many educational options for your review and none appeared to meet your needs. As was suggested on a number of previous occasions it may be to your advantage to meet with a career counseling professional to discuss what issues may be preventing you from finding a suitable educational choice. Otherwise it is possible that you may find yourself searching endlessly for an illusory educational program. Just my opinion.

This is just my opinion, and as such may be worthless, but if you have searched diligently for months and months, it just may be that there is no existing program that meets your requirements.

Not every program anyone can think of necessarily exists and further exists as a distance program. While there is a pretty nice M.S. in BioTech at UMUC, neither it nor any other distance program could possibly meet my needs in an M.S. (since what I need is research experience which necessitates lab access in biosci). Since I am geographically limited, I looked at my available options and chose the best available program rather than endlessly searching for the illusory perfect program.

It may be time for you to see what is available and chose on that basis if you have genuinely searched for months and months.

    Hi,
I do understand you all and thank you for your advice, however, I do know a Master's in psychology exists and it would probably have to be done locally and not by DE. I'm not 100% sure, but I would be ok with that.
The one thing I do know is I want a Master's in psychology.
Second, I do know it 's out there, only not many are english-thaught and that's exactly what I'm looking for.
I heard and searched through Netherlands and Belgium and still think the Netherlands, I haven't found enough. The ones I did find, were all Research fields in psychology, so I was kind of hoping someone would give me more ideas of universities that I could ask.
Such as the Leicester, I'm looking and waiting on their response.

Have anybody heard about the Erasmus Mundus Program? They have a Masters in psych. but you have to study in different languages. I wouldn't mind doing so, however, I haven't heard any feedback from it and only good comments from the program itself.....

    Thanks

Check out the American Psychological Association website. They mostly have information about graduate programs in the U.S. You might want to find the equivalent organization in Europe and contact them for help.
    http://www.apa.org/

For instance, this APA page contains a directory of all of the International Psychological Organizations.
    http://www.apa.org/international/intlorgs.html

And the European Federation of Psychologists' Associations is located in Belguim.
    http://www.efpa.be

If that does not help the Social Psychology Network has a Distance Learning in Psychology page with a zillion links to online psychology education-related websites.
    http://www.socialpsychology.org/distance.htm

That should keep you busy for a while...

Hi Rachel - I am wondering if you are bilingual or do you also require that the courses be taught in English. Obviously this will effect the number of choices available to you.

    Hi
Yes, I am bilingual, but I did mention that I do require Enlish-thaught courses as I'm so used to it now.
Yes, that does limit a lot my choices, I have noticed.
I find a lot of good stuff in Europe, but not much of Master's in English!
    That's my struggle.

On the UK, well, I am sending loads of emails and found a couple universities, BUT, they all make you go through BPS and you need to be recognized by them before anything else. At least that's how I understand it.
So, I have no idea if my degree is equivalent and would have to pay to find out, to than MAYBE not choose a UK university.
They really make it complicated. Well, again, that's my impression.
Still, I don't know if the UK is ideal as far as universities go. I don't know.

So, my search continues and is very narrow now: Europe-English-thaught- Masters in Psychology, but NO research, only counseling areas.

    Thanks

Hi Rachel - Perhaps you've not turned up this school in your research. The University of Tartu is in Estonia. It has within it an Open University which offers distance learning degrees in English. You will undoubtedly have some questions for them in order to confirm that this school could satisfy your needs. I hope you find it so.

I doubt she has a real interest in DL. But let her be. She still helps us extend the knowledge base of the forums. ;)

    Hello,
I am in the same situation, did you find anything yet. This might be helpful to me too.
    Thanks very much,

This post is four years old. xygirl hasn't posted here since 2007. But who knows, maybe she will provide us with an update.

If you could give us some information about your situation, that would be helpful.

    For example:

    Country of Residence:
Country where you would like to attend school (via distance learning or otherwise):
Degree you are looking to pursue (subject and level):
    Budget:
    Time to complete:

Those are some of the common questions that we ask around here in order to get started in helping someone locate a program.

It's always funny to revisit these old threads. Upon re-reading the thread my first thought was "What's so bad about xygirl's Bachelors degree that it won't be acceptable to the Open University?" Then I thought, "Probably should have pointed her toward the Netherlands." (although, if you can't get into the OU then you probably can't get into a university in the Netherlands either)

I'm really surprised that OU rejected you. Which school did you earn your psychology bachelor degree from?
