My question is about specifically around Touro University International at http://www.tourou.edu or Nova (which I believe has IACBE certification) at http://www.nova.edu?

Are there any plans for Touro/Nova/NCU to achieve AACSB certification? Are any distance programs being considered?

The faculty background that I see at TUI is very impressive with many having PhD's from top schools, as well as a few TUI and Capella grads included. I'm aware there are undergraduate and Masters programs that are AACSB, but I'm specifically looking for PhD programs that can be completed at a distance (I'm looking for a finance or accounting PhD or DBA).

Thanks,

Scott--when you called or wrote to them, how did they respond to your question? Just curious.

I am sure those instituitions are happy with their current business accreditation. So far, I don't see any AACSB schools offer Ph.D entirely online. According your signature, you are still working on your Master. Why don't you make sure you do well at the Master degree before looking for something that is impossible at the present time.

BTW, If you are lookin' from AACSB Ph.D degree; then your MBA should be AACSB too. I am sure Keller School of Management from DeVry is not accredited by AACSB.

4Q's question

Dear Mr. XXX –

Please note that Touro University International is not aggressively pursuing AACSB accreditation at this time.

If you have any other questions or concerns, please contact me anytime.

I have not heard of a requirement that to enter a AACSB PhD program your earlier degrees must be from an AACSB program. Some have a requirement that you have a Masters in a similar field to your PhD, but I think GMAT scores and background are the key factors. At worst, you may need to do some probationary period.
I'm not saying there isn't value in having an AACSB MBA, but IMO I think you are setting up additional barriers that don't exist.

Anyone that has run into problems or lack of problems in this area, please feel free to chime in.

Thanks,

Reply to 4Q (continued)

I've sent requests out to both Nova (accreditated with IACBE and regional) and NCU (accreditated with ACBSP and regional), as I get replies I will provide them to you also.
I suspect Nova would be the first to go after AACSB, but that is an eduacated guess at this point.

This is nice but it does not mean that NCU is ACBSP. When the link I provided lists NCU as accredited, then they will be accredited.

I know many students in AACSB programs with MBAs from non AACSB schools.

Aacsb

AACSB is the gold standard for business accreditation. It is the only recognised business accreditation.

Touro, NCU and the rest will never achieve this accreditation. There are external programs that are AACSB, but not in the United States. For example, Aston Business School and Henley Management College offer AACSB doctoral programs, but residencies are required. AACSB will never accredit an 100% online degree program. I know one of the AACSB directors, and this comes from the horses mouth.

The best thing to do is enroll is a recognised B&M school that offers external programs. Don't waste your time with "online" "virtual" schools.

Hello XXX,

Thank you for expressing an interest in the Doctor of Business Administration program at the H. Wayne Huizenga School of Business and Entrepreneurship. In regards to AACSB accreditation, NSU and the Huizenga School may possibly consider AACSB Accreditation when it is appropriate.

To be fair to Scott, I think he meant to say that he believes that the AACSB will never accredit 100% online doctoral programs. There are many many MBA programs that are AACSB accredited and fully-online.

I was referring to doctoral programs.

'Never" is a pretty strong word to use considering the evolution of the AACSB standards over time. Ask the director you know to compare the current standards to those of 10 and 20 years ago. I believe you will find that the standards have changed quite considerably in the last ten years.

The requirement that 75% of faculty be fulltime conducting research is gone.

100% online AACSB MBAs are common.

The Regional Accrediting agencies consider a PhD from Touro University International or NCU to be equal to any AACSB PhD for RA accrediting purposes.

ACBSP is CHEA recognized and IACBE is seeking it. How can you say the AACSB is the only recognised business accreditation? What about AMBA and EQUIS? Are you saying schools that seek to have the so-called Triple Crown of business accrediations are wasting their time?

Finally, ask your director friend if the AACSB requires a business PhD\DBA to be accredited by the AACSB for teaching purposes. If not, why?

The "Triple Crown" of business accreditation (AACSB, AMBA and EQUIS) is for top international business schools. I don't think that having only one of these accreditations is sub-standard, but the trend is to try to achieve all three.

The quality and process control required to achieve and maintain these three accreditations is intimidating. Some business schools just don't have the resources in personnel and money to do this.

I will ask him about the requirement of an AACSB-accredited degree for teaching in a AACSB program. I know that some business schools specifically ask that the doctorate come from an AACSB-accredited school as a requirement of the position.

There is some confusion in that reply. Those schools may achieve AACSB in the future, as those in power at AACSB and in the constituent schools are replaced with those who are more knowledgeable about DL. Moreover, the generally accessible "external" AACSB doctoral programs in the North America are offered by...?

Hi Scott,

By the way, it is inappropriate to post private email to a public discussion board without the permission of the author. An author's email is copyrighted, so publishing it without permission is a copyright violation. Plus, you have masked your own name while displaying the author's name, which is a common tactic employed by trolls.

Hey, I don't want to discourage you from participating, but I wanted to point out these protocol issues.

Thanks for the protocol info

I was asked what the response to the question was and I thought it was a reasonable request. I'll try to keep your recommendation in mind in future posts.
Thanks,
