Looks like the forum has lost some more posts, including mine (yesterday).

    I mentioned:

    (1) USM is one of the Big-Three-or-Four for DL in Malaysia
    (2) I thought we (or at least I) had talked about it for some years, but I couldn't get the "search" to work.
    (3) I did, however, find a thread started by Tom Head in 2002, mentioning the school.

USM has a good reputation and is low-cost by US standards. Back then, it seemed to be home of the $2000 Doctorate, although that has changed. Last I looked, a distance Bachelor's might have been $6K-7K US. Might be more now; I haven't really kept up. USM enjoys full, mainstream degree-granting status from the Authorities in Malaysia and the name means Malaysian University of Science.

I think we might need to move the forum to this special neighborhood:

    Hi Guys,

I read this post a couple of days ago and then the site was facing issues.

I will be moving to Malaysia soon to Swinburne Malaysia soon for BSc but my MSc I have interest in this university as well, their Computer Science with Specialization in Computer Networking is of much interest to me as well

If it's online learning then why does it need to be in Malaysia?

    Swinburne Malaysia is a B&M school - a branch of a well-known Australian school. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swinburne_University_of_Technology_Sarawak_Campus

If he's in Malaysia, he'll at the very least have to go to a testing centre there, to take the Microsoft and/or Cisco exams. And I believe this kind of certification often involves on-ground classes.

From what he wrote, I think our reader is looking forward to distance ed. for his Master's.

I'm sure he does - at least for approved Microsoft and Cisco training providers in Malaysia. He also asked what our members thought was best - going for the M.Sc. first, or the certifications.

So maybe some tech guru here at DI can offer his/her opinion. I'm not one, but my guess (and that's all it is) : Get the Bachelor's and get the Certs. Then get the M.Sc. Industry-standard Certs are important, so I'm told.

Well TryllZ - Sarawak is a nice place to move in. The Swinburne campus is located just in the heart of Kuching with every facility in walking distance. I lived in Kuching over the past 2 years.

Re. USM - it is regarded as one of the best in Malaysia and stands in QS Ranking at a very good place.

AeU and MEDIU are also two good distance learning options from Malaysia; the later has improved a lot over the years.

    Hi guys,

I appreciate everybody's opinion and a healthy conversation, no offence but again I am going physically to Malaysia to study and not doing any DL, I plan to do MSc with coursework on ground and Certifications as well however since 4 Cisco certifications are already part of the degree program in Swinburne (because it mentions on Swinburne site I have asked for clarification) which I think will be very beneficial to me.

USM might be one of the good Universities in Malaysia but my query was regarding their MSc in Computer Networking, is the program and its content really worth studying..

Both schools are well-known and I don't know enough to help you choose. But I do suggest you might want to also have a look at a third school - Multimedia University - in the "Cyberjaya." Programs might suit you and they do all the MS and Cisco training you were asking about.

Years ago, I remember I downloaded some interesting software (free) that was developed by students at this school and I was impressed. Faculty of Computing and Informatics, Multimedia University No harm in having a look...
