Jones International University, a Centennial-based online school founded in 1993 by cable pioneer Glenn Jones, plans to shut down in the face of sharp enrollment declines.

The move follows a 55 percent drop in enrollment between 2011 and the end of 2014, leaving JIU with about 2,000 students, officials said. The school, which pioneered offering courses over the Internet, found itself facing a host of digital course offerings in recent years.
