My 17 year old just submitted her term paper for CE 231 - Intro to Christian Ethics, which completes her final course to transfer to Charter Oak State College. CE 231 is offered by Seminary Extension and is ACE Evaluated for 3 credits in Ethics or Religion. This course will fulfill Charter Oak's ethics requirement. Assuming successful completion, my daughter will have an AA at 17 years + 3 months of age.

She plans to attend Southern Virginia University in the Fall. At Southern Virginia University, she was awarded a Marriott Scholarship, which is the most competitive scholarship at the University. In addition, she was inducted into Phi Theta Kappa, at Clovis Community College. PTK is the official honor society for two-year colleges.

I can't begin to thank so many people on this board who pointed us along the way of using CLEP/DSST Exams, Clovis Community College, and Charter Oak State College. This accomplishment means more to me than my doctorate. Thanks again!

Shawn, that's great news -- please congratulate her for me!

Does she know yet how much transfer credit she'll get from SVU?

My eldest son is 13 and already thinking about doing something along these lines. I'm glad you all are blazing the trail. :)

The transfer credit issue is still up in the air. The school is evaluating her academic portfolio by division.

Congratulations! I'm trying to guide my 14 yo son along a similar path.

Out of curiosity, how was the Seminary Extension course, both timewise and in comparison to a semester-based course?

This course was the most difficult for my daughter. It wasn't a hard course, but she just couldn't get excited about the material in the class. She did a good deal of pushing the course off (independent study - no deadlines).

Someone motivated could complete the course in a month. There are 3 exams on the honor system, a term paper, and a proctored final exam. Service and turn around was good (better if you paid the $10 rush grading fee).

The credit evaluation was completed today. SVU accepted 42 credits of her Charter Oak AA. Dad was hoping for 45 - 50 credits, but after looking over the evaluation from SVU, I'm satisfied with the explanations from the school. The Provost remarked that no student at SVU has brought in the amount of CLEP credit that Geri did. Thank goodness for the portfolio, the letter from ACE, etc.

We'll finish her schedule tonight, and get her ready for Fall Semester!

Just wanted to update this...my daughter completed her graduation requirements at Southern Virginia University (SVU) week. She earned a BA in Art, maintaining a 3.95 GPA.

Up next - a BS in Mathematics from the University of Saint Francis (USF). She needs 32 credits at USF to earn degree number 2. SVU does not have a math major, so she decided to finish her degree requirements there with her Marriott Scholarship funds - and then work on the math degree at USF.
