The Rebel Holly Nicholas July 29, 2017 A story out of Manitoba perfectly illustrates how Canada’s Refugee and Immigration policies discriminate against economic immigrants who actually share our Canadian values. The Warkentin family, originally from Colorado bought a business over five years ago but are being denied permanent residency due to their daughter’s epilepsy diagnosis and may even apply to the little girl visiting the country since the letter advised against her entering the country without seeking advice from a Canadian visa office. Meanwhile, Trudeau’s Welfare Welcome Wagon is rolled out for those who cross the United States border into Canada illegally. I sincerely hope that this case, and the case of York U prof Felipe Montoya (who faces exactly the same treatment over his son's disability), and doubtless many others, will bring the overdue reform in this part of CIC regulations. Having said that, this article, complete with dishonest clickbaity title, is a perfect example of fake news. The family is not discriminated - it is treated in strict accordance with regulations as they stand (while being a great example of why these need revision). Immigration system in Canada is not designed by Trudeau nor a "welfare welcome wagon". It's a dog whistle, and you don't need to scroll farther than the second comment, a wile attack on Minister Ahmed Hussein, to see the kind of howl it is designed to produce. It shows that Canada has its own healthy population of deplorables, public image notwithstanding.
The comments are way worse on the Youtube version of this story. Awful - e.g. "Of coarse, put a f**king Muslim as the minister of immigration..." The unfortunate truth is, I hear that kind of talk quite often; I've taken my business elsewhere, on occasion - but that doesn't really accomplish much. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WVBpSDnf0Ag How sad and how true. Yeah. This, combined with the constant sanctimony, sours me to this country a little bit. I know, I know, it's still better than a large majority of the world on this. But not as good as advertised.
