I'm not saying "like father, like son" here, I don't believe in that. However, there are some skeletons in Jared's father's closet: In 2005, Dad (Charles Kushner) pleaded guilty to 18 counts of making illegal campaign contributions, tax evasion and witness tampering. He was sentenced to 2 years in prison and served 14 months at a facility in Montgomery, Alabama.

You guys probably know this already, but I didn't. The story of Mr. Kushner Sr.'s witness tampering is particularly lurid. Details here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_Kushner

Aww, heck - what possible harm could Jared's Dad do, anyway....

He he! I am tempted to use a certain word my black friend used to use for fellas like that, but I won't. Anyway, reminds me of another devious fellow. I guess that Flynn conspired to kidnap some dude thus bypassing extradition laws. Very devious fellow indeed. I am feeling to lazy to look it up right now.

Translated: Jared's never done the sort of things his Dad went to jail for - and I'm not suggesting he would - ever. But how do you feel about the possibility that his Dad might somehow try to influence what goes on in the White House?

Is that plain enough for you now, Steve?

Well, it's plain that you're trying to have it both ways. JFK's father was a bootlegger during Prohibition, should questions have been raised about JFK's suitability for the presidency? Bill Clinton's brother did time in the '80s for cocaine, same question. I think ultimately, unless there's a clear reason to the contrary, one shouldn't be judged by what one's family members do, full stop.

OK - I guess I agree, this far: His father's past conduct has nothing to do with Jared's suitability for his all-encompassing job at the White House. Perhaps the real thing to fear is that the President will influence what goes on...

Don't worry, I'm sure President Bannon gives Trump enough coloring books to keep him out of the way.

I'm more interested in his eventual testimony on those meetings with Russians. Also I wonder how crappy the whole extended family's credit must be if they're forced to deal with the sanctioned VneshEkonomBank. Sad!

Supplying alcohol, in defiance of stupid laws? That can be seen as an essential - and meritorious - public service. Posthumous medal, perhaps?

Joseph P. Kennedy is only No. 11 on the "Most Interesting Bootleggers List." How about posthumous medals for all the guys?

    • Arnold Rothstein
    • Al Capone
    • Dutch Schulz
    • Lucky Luciano
    • Joseph P. Kennedy
    • Bugsy Siegel
    • Meyer Lansky
    • Legs Diamond
    • Dion O'Banion
    • Bugs Moran
    • Johnny Torrio
    • George Remus
    • Lee Petty (post-bootlegging, an early NASCAR hero and father of famed NASCAR driver Richard Petty)
    • Enoch "Nucky" Johnson (who is said to have put the "pub" in Republican by controlling the party's activities by back-door methods)
    • Bill McCoy - thanks for building the boats that made it all happen!
