He seems OK to me. But I do not break laws and do not expect handouts.

That cruel Gov't made me sleep in tents for 4 years in my life (true story)......the shame!

I had to sleep in a tent (unless I was out on a mission) in 120+ degree temperatures, didn't have plumbing or running water, had to eat crappy food, and I didn't commit any crimes, I was serving in the US Army.

So, I have zero sympathy for those inmates; if you don't like it, don't come back. It's 100% their choice, unlike me.

The assumption is that everyone in jail belongs there, and that's not so.

    100% agree with you.

"Son, you know they ended the draft, right?"

You had to physically get up and volunteer for those activities. If you didn't know that the Army involved sleeping in a tent, pooping in a hole and eating crappy food then you must have wandered into that recruiting office without ever catching a single episode of MASH.

I can think of a few folks who certainly belong in jail. I'm sure you do as well. But I'd also like to think that somewhere along the line in your law enforcement career you encountered a person or two who was actually innocent.

Loading people into tents, making them wear pink underwear and basically saying that if a fellow inmate kills you with a tent spike it's your problem for getting thrown in jail in the first place isn't exactly a sound approach to penology.

President Obama didn't make people hate cops. People like Joe Arpaio did. Now the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office is likely going to go "soft" by treating people, most of them still innocent until proven guilty, like human beings. Aww shucks. Now we won't reach the levels of success that cruel imprisonment has brought to China, Russia and Brazil. Start giving them dental care and we might have to deal with the abysmally low recidivism rates of Western Europe.

I expect that there's probably a place in the coming Trump administration for Sheriff Joe, if he wants one.

Sheriff Joe is also tainted by legal woes. So he probably wouldn't be vying for a top position.

Besides that the man is 84 years old. It might just be time for him to hang up his gun belt and take up building birdhouses or something.

He's 84? Damn, that's one scrappy spry son of a bitch! He doesn't seem 84.

Lol, nope. Now if you'd have said Clarke, then we might be close.

No. I don't think so. Trump likes this guy, so he's got a job if he wants one.

I'm guessing (that's all it is) that Rudy Giuliani ends up at Homeland Security. (If Trump can't shoe-horn him into AG.)

But Director of ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) might be where Sheriff Joe ends up. Trump would be sending a message with that appointment.

Or Commissioner of Customs and Border Protection, Chief of the Border Patrol. I'm guessing this is the most likely place Joe Arpaio ends up.

Or in a retirement home since he's 84 years old.

Trump is heavily into branding. He doesn't do things that don't conform to his personal brand.

He may like Arpaio but Arpaio is a rogue. There are a lot of people who like Joe Arpaio as Sheriff but who would never want to have Joe Arpaio working for them. He's a loose cannon and he's his own sort of media hog.

Trump wants the cameras on him. And he's likely to surround himself with people who are OK with that. Joe Arpaio would love being the head of the ICE. But he would love the press conferences as the head of ICE even more. And that's an asset Trump is likely not going to give away easily no matter how much he "likes" a person.

Joe Arpaio is a liability because he would likely refuse to fall in line and clearly as no problem breaking laws and violating court orders.

Trump's victory speech was the most coherent and Presidential thing he's said since this thing began. And the cabinet posting possibilities we're seeing are actually reasonable choices. We aren't seeing him float the idea of Ted Nugent as Secretary of Defense or anything silly. We're seeing Generals being considered for the roles that former Generals tend to fill, attorneys being considered for the sort of jobs that attorneys tend to fill and doctors potentially filling the sort of roles that doctors tend to fill.

The idea that he's going to tap an 84 year old former Sheriff (and retired Federal Agent) to lead a major agency is somewhat remote. Add to that the fact that said former Sheriff would be vying for the spotlight, not doing what Trump wanted unless it conformed with his own plans and could very well cause even more legal attacks against your administration and I'd say the possibility is very remote.

Even a GOP controlled Senate is unlikely to confirm a highly controversial 84 year old.

The man is likely going to lose access to his car keys before he's ever considered to wear another badge.

Arpaio had a good run, but all good things must come to an end. Sometimes people like change for the sake of change, and Joe's expiration date had come due.

It would be a neat idea to get outsiders. Sadly, I see DEMONcrats and REpukes getting all the top spots.
