Duterte was speaking in Tagalog. Coincidence: same expression exists in Spanish. "Hijo de puta," literally "son of a whore," usually translates as S.O.B. - or so my excellent Spanish teacher informed me back in College in the 80s. However, the S.O.B bit was only part of Duterte's offense. He called the U.S. Ambassador a "gay S.O.B." and it's the homophobic slur that has him in Heißwasser -once again. (Thanks, Dr. Bear!
