Americans are as skeptical of Black Lives Matter as they were of the Civil Rights Movement - Vox

"But the fire Trump’s igniting is fueled by a country that has historically resisted black social justice movements."

"According to American National Election Studies, 57 percent of Americans in 1964 said most of black people’s actions during the Civil Rights Movement in the most recent year were violent. Sixty-three percent of Americans believed that the Civil Rights Movement was moving “too fast.” And a majority of Americans (58 percent) believed that black people’s actions for the movement hurt their own cause."

    Sound familiar?

The article links to the same video I debunked point-by-point in your other thread as its main reference for clarifying the intent of BLM.

Also, this is the first time in my entire life that I have seen comparable unpopularity as the characteristic used to claim honor by association. If the American people have an equal dislike for the taste of cabbage as they do the taste of Four Loko, it does not mean that Four Loko is high in fiber and Vitamin C.

However, that's not the only flaw in that mode of logic. The American people today are not the same as the American people 50 years ago. The country is, on the whole, less racist, more integrated and with significantly greater access to information today than back then. Comparing attitudes towards the two social movements by their respective contemporaries is not even apples to apples.

National Black Lives Matter organization says it does not support First Step Barbecue(National Black Lives Matter organization says it does not support First Step Barbecue)

The national co-founder of the BlackLivesMatter organization says she does not support last weekend's "first step barbecue." The event let the community and Wichita police officers talk about ways to improve relations between the department and minority communities.

I think this is the best warning about reading too much into correlation that I have ever read.
