I have always carried a baseball bat in the trunk of my car. I keep a baseball back there as well because I like to hit a few balls sometimes ;) Is this ok with the popo? (law enforcement)

The police won't mind if you play a little baseball. Got a glove in there as well? If, on the other hand, you're keeping it for self-defense purposes I'd suggest that it's fairly useless in your trunk. I keep an expandable baton in the door pocket of my Jeep.

Yeah, I got a glove as well. I wish carrying an expandable baton in my car was legal in my state. I love those things.

Baseball bats are perfectly legal, and are quite effective weapons (much more reach & power than a baton).

Oh, that's good. I carry a ball and glove with it. I have an aluminum bat, it seems lighter but very solid.

4-iron. Not as much mass, but a lot more speed (especially when needed to re-load for a second swing). No defense in golf, you know.

Hmm, that's a good point. I never thought of like that. I do like my bat though, it is very light weight, but stronger than hell. He he

Yeah, but I haven't been able to figure out how to put a baseball bat in my jacket pocket.

That's where an Airweight S&W .38 Special revolver comes in. I recommend the Model 442 (blued) or Model 642 (stainless), both with aluminum frames but steel barrels and cylinders. Easy to conceal, very lightweight, and packs a wallop with the right ammunition.

I went to Turners after lunch last week. They had the 638 Airweight on sale. I went in and took a look at it. It is much less bulky than the FBI 38 S&W I have. I really like how the flexible handle felt in my hand. Damn nice gun.

Excellent gun, the only difference between that and my 642 is that the 638 has a hammer that's shrouded (can be cocked for single-action), while mine has an internal hammer (double-action only).

I guess I'm boring, because I live somewhere safe enough that I don't feel the need for any of these things. But it's good to know I can call on any of the Justice League of America here if necessary.

We live in a different world than 20 years ago, the awful incident yesterday reinforced that evil can strike anywhere, anytime.

I live by "It's better to have it and not need it, than need it, and not have it".

Mine was tongue-in-cheek. I'd rather there were fewer lethal weapons around so people wouldn't use them to settle their disputes. You know, like in the civilized world.

When Florida became a "shall-issue" state, which means if you meet basic criteria like a criminal background check, no history of mental illness or drug/alcohol abuse, & safety training, you have to be issued a gun permit, there were predictions of gunfights in the street, road rage incidents ending in bloodbaths, etc. One newspaper even trumpeted the shrill headline "The GUN-shine State!!!".

It didn't happen. Violent crime dropped immediately and dramatically, and kept a downturn for many years. Other states that implemented shall-issue had similar results. More guns in the hands of good guys means less crime.

Yeah, I am with you on that one. I was born in a very violent place. Later, my parents got good union jobs and my dad was able to move us in to a nice "white" safe neighborhood. So, even though I drive a fancy car and live in wonderful neighborhood, I still have certain traits from the bad neighborhood. If i should become surrounded by six or seven fellas, some say I am pretty good at throwing kicks and punches and stuff like that, but why bruise myself up if i don't need to? A bat will be much easier.

I'm glad that you've not been hurt but would respectfully submit that your feelings of safety are an illusion. Shit happens everywhere.

Sure, someone might gun me down for my Skechers today. But the risk of being a victim of violent crime in my area is so low that I don't worry about it any more than I worry about other extremely unlikely things.

I get to drive all over so my area varies quite a bit. Around my home it's mostly corn so I still feel pretty safe (although sometimes my friends make reference to those "Children of the Corn" movies and it creeps me out. I don't like movies like that.:eek1:

Where are these safe places? The nightclub shooter is reported to have cased Walt Disney World as a target. And note that even an off duty Police Officer (being paid as security) tried but failed to subdue the suspect, I don't know why, but it tells me you can't really have too much gun. I'll stick to my Glock 19 and a happy stick. Still, I hope if it ever comes to it my assailant is armed like Rich.
