I predict Donald J. Trump will win in November and become the 45 President of the United States.

I'm convinced that he is the one a plurality (or majority, even) will ultimately select. He seems to fit the values this country has come to embrace.

Anyway, now I can opt out of the conversations about it and get on with accepting the inevitable outcome that is coming our way.

I'm not as convinced as you are, but if it does come to pass, Debbie Wasserman Schultz and the rest of the Democrat power brokers have only themselves to blame.

They were already hamstrung by the fact that a political party very, very rarely holds on to the White House for 3 consecutive terms (the last being Reagan & Bush 41), then add in that they picked an awful candidate to put forth at the worst possible time, then rigged the primary so she couldn't possibly lose.

Putting aside the ethical & possible criminal issues involving Clinton, she represents the tired old Washington insiders, at a time when there is a tsunami of public revolt against Washington politics as usual. Add in those other issues, plus the fact that she's not at all likable, and she's fatally flawed as a candidate.

Maybe Rich is right -- if you believe a Fox News poll, Clinton's negatives are even higher than Trump's. Anyway, I stopped making predictions about this cycle after it became clear that no one on the GOP side was going to knock Trump out, because I originally didn't expect him to last past Super Tuesday.

You're not abandoning your country like the rest of the whiners? You're not getting your passport ready for the Canadian border? Reminds me of all the rednecks threatening secession when President Obama was elected. We're all fit throwers in the end when we don't get our way...that's the one thing Libs and Cons can agree on...whining when the other guy takes his turn hijacking the government temporarily. Kicking our feet like a child in Wal-Mart not getting her Skittles is the dujour emotion when the person with the wrong letter after their name gets into office.

Me? I'll do the same as I always have for every President. Hope they do the best for our country, that them and their families are safe, and that we all continue to get better as a collective.

I've made no secret of the fact that I'm about as left wing as you can get. At the same time I don't really like Hillary (it's sort of the same way I don't really like processed cheese products - just seems fake). But one thing that seems clear to me is that the people who continue to say that Trump can't beat Hillary are the same ones who've been saying that he'd NEVER become the Republican nominee. Whether you like him or not it seems very clear that mainstream politics and the mainstream media with all the experts and pundits, etc have all been wrong at every turn in regards to Trumps appeal and I still haven't heard a convincing explanation as to why he can't win the general election. Mostly what you hear is something like, "But, but, but, he's so icky!" Well, maybe he's actually is icky but it simply seems that 1) people don't care, or 2) people actually like it. Frankly, I think it's #2 (no pun intended). I think that people believe that having an outrageous person at the top will shake things up and that a "do nothing congress" could not exist in a Trump presidency because he will just start bringing the heat on these guys, calling them out personally, etc. Beyond that I think that people recognize that Trump will not be allowed to do some of the outrageous things he's put on his "to do list." Building a wall to separate Mexico from the US cost money and so goes through the appropriations committee where it will die or be turned into some compromised version of an immigration bill. Either way it's going to be fun.

Clinton is a fake progressive. She's always been a centrist.

Agreed. And Trump's a fake conservative. No wonder they go bowling together....

That is why I said from the very beginning, "do not underestimate Trompeta".

True. He won't be able to deliver on most of the things he is saying. For example, he wants to bring back all kinds of torture/interrogation. This may sound really neat to some, but the military experts have already said they will not enforce such tactics. Even Presidents don't have magical wands to just "do beautiful stuff".

People say "Oh, but we need a great businessman to run our country". Well, first I would say that he needs to release his tax returns (and he can, despite his claims that he is under audit and can't) so we can find out just how great of a businessman he is. If he does get in, he will find out that government is nothing like the "Art of The Deal". You just can't make a deal like you do in the real estate business. Protocols need to be followed, and many, many TPX reports need to filled out. If you buy something, bids need to be taken. After all, how many Harvard grad MBA's were at the helm during the financial melt down?

Trump is a different animal. He will change his story every five minutes, he is a shape shifter if you will. It is very difficult to land a punch on a shape shifter. This is what makes him unorthodox, and different from other politicians.

Well, to be fair, Obama has been pretty centrist himself, but I still like him. I'm trying to warm up to Hillary a little more...the trouble is that the Dems need more enthusiasm than that in their candidate.

On the subject of tax returns:

After a weekend of bad press, why the tax returns could still be Trump's kryptonite

"It's true that tax returns do not show overall net worth. But income over several years surely hints strongly at what a person's real financial picture is. And Trump's entire campaign is built around the idea that he is a massively successful business titan who can fix what's wrong with America in the same way he always wins in life."

Yeah, my guess is Trump is not worth nearly as much as he says, since he exaggerates everything. What happened to his claims that he is so rich he would be self funding his campaign? Also, he probably pays very little taxes, since he brags about taking advantage of just about every tax break out there. What the heck, put a few goats on your golf course, and BAM, you get a tax break. Free money. Ah que tiny hands este.

The IRS audit he claims is happening (no evidence of this) is allegedly for 2014-2015. He could easily release the earlier tax records. As for how great a businessman he is, he has gone bankrupt several times so that's got to count for something.

Ah, this guy. I thought he said he would release his tax records when Obama released his birth certificate? This man speaks with a "forked tongue". A few years back when he was leading the whole Obama is a Muslim (or whatever), he was on some TV show. He claimed that his investigators in Hawaii had proof that Obama was not an American. He stated the evidence would be released at a late date. He will also then make up bizarro stories (just one of many) about Muslims in New York having parties during 911. He is told point blank that no such things happened, but he claims he saw it on "TV". And he just keeps repeating this stuff. Like I said, a shape shifter. I do get a kick out of his "bullets covered in pigs blood" story though. It's funny how guys that never served seems to be the biggest war mongers.

As far as the businessman angle. If he wasn't born with a silver spoon in his mouth, he would probably be an abject failure in business.

To quibble, four of his businesses have declared bankruptcy, but I don't think he has personally.

Milbank: Why won't Trump share tax returns?

    More:

Milbank: Why won't Trump share tax returns? - Orlando Sentinel

"Now, just one presidential cycle later, Republicans have settled on a presumptive nominee who is himself among the 47 percent of nontaxpayers. Trump has been refusing to release his tax returns, and we have a pretty good idea why: He has been feeding at the public trough."

"The Washington Post's Drew Harwell reported that, for at least two years in the late 1970s (the last time Trump's tax information was made public), Trump paid no federal income taxes. Several tax experts I spoke with said it's entirely possible that Trump has continued to report negative income — and therefore not pay taxes — because of loopholes and dubious deductions that benefit powerful real-estate interests. They say it's likely that whatever taxes he does pay would be at a rate lower than the average worker pays."

    Bzzzzzt!

That's not information, that's baseless speculation. I'm no fan of Trump, but I am a fan of good journalism, and that isn't it.

I'm no fan of Trump but even if it's true that he hasn't paid taxes in forever, that doesn't mean he's done anything wrong. It just means he's hired some smart tax people and the tax laws are crappy. It's an indictment of the tax code, not Trump.

Yes, it is an indictment of the tax code. There is a reason politicians don't like to reveal they have paid little or no taxes, the average reasonable working man (we are all workers here) resents it, and they should. Romney knew this. My feeling is that Trump doesn't make as much as he claims, and doesn't want to reveal it. I mean, this a guy who claims with a straight face that the unemployment rate can be as high 40%! I can only imagine what our country would be like at 40% unemployment.

This has been a very interesting election cycle. I am glad Sanders has made his message front and center. I think he has awaken a sleeping giant. This is a good thing. Discussing corporate welfare is constructive. If I am not mistaken, one of the Koch brothers mentions it in a book. He concedes that it is a problem, and agrees with Sanders message. It's not rocket science. We can't keep lavishly giving out free money, and then claim that things like Social Security are in peril. To say these things is not a "eat the rich" mentality, it is common sense. Food for thought.

It's funny. My wife saw my NRA shooting friend/instructor at a Bernie rally last night on FB! Thanks to him, I am getting pretty good with guns.
