According to reports, Palin is on Trump's short list. Seriously.

Of course, there are no other women on that list, so perhaps she's just a red herring.

    I'm expecting Christie, or a military general/admiral.

One of the bones he's thrown the establishment recently is the statement that he's likely to pick someone who can help him move legislation through Congress. He's a serial liar, so whether he means it is anyone's guess, and even if he does who that means he would pick is still unknowable, but it wouldn't be Palin, Christie, or this generation's James Stockdale.

LOL what report? One from www.ihatetrump.com? I thought Cathy McMorris Rogers was in the running?

Plain would be a disaster, I'm sure he knows that.

I've seen Palin's name thrown around a bit. I can't believe that even Trump would be that stupid. That time he put her on stage at one of his rallies was a disaster. She totally embarrassed herself.

It would be hilarious if he picked her. She had her five minutes of fame. The luster has faded. I was cracking up at her "Mexicans are lured in to the country with soccer balls and gift baskets" rant.

Sarah Palin: Mexicans are being seduced into the US with 'gift baskets and soccer balls'

"Palin was said to be referencing an event from two years ago, when American political commentator Glenn Beck brought care packages to immigrant children at the border. Many in the room felt that the speech did not get the desired reaction, with "some eye rolls and phone checking" before limited polite applause at the end."

Trump has acknowledged that he should seriously consider someone with experience in government, and national government is the logical choice. That rules out both Palin and Christie, neither of which I think he'd consider, anyway. I wouldn't count out Jeff Sessions or Newt Gingrich.

Clinton has a real conundrum. One pick who I think would be disastrous for her, and I've seen the name mentioned several times, is Elizabeth Warren. She only plays well in Massachusetts because she has the holy & almighty (D) next to her name, which almost guarantees election for most posts. Her past is a veritable minefield of lies and deception (although it pales in comparison to Clinton) that Trump would have a field day with on the national stage.

Gingrich will say or do anything if he thinks there's advantage to him, so perhaps he's ideal for Trump.

    Julián Castro, maybe?

I don't know much about him, but from what I've read, he'd be a very solid choice. He'd obviously appeal to many Hispanic voters (which Clinton is seriously targeting), and doesn't seem to have any skeletons in his closet. I think his biggest drawback is his relative obscurity outside Texas; if a political junkie like me doesn't know about him, the average voter probably hasn't, either.

One pick I forgot to mention for Trump, and I have no idea if he's even considering it (or she'd even want it), is Condoleeza Rice. She comes with impeccable Washington credentials (Secretary of State, National Security Adviser), and let's be honest, being female and black certainly doesn't hurt. The big negative I see with her is that some people will associate her with Bush 43.

My prediction is that Trump will pick Chris Christie.

For Hillary? I think Elizabeth Warren would potentially kill her campaign. Warren is also very aggressive toward Clinton benefactors so I can't imagine that would be a good match.

I know it would be an epic longshot, but I feel like a case could be made for Joe Biden. He's already got his office set up and everything. John Kerry would also be an interesting contender.

Of course, that's assuming she wanted a current insider to bring some form of influence that she lacked. Kerry or Biden would likely be able to help her whip Senate votes. If she were to go full-on Cheney and just pick someone rich and powerful, someone like Jon Corzine might find himself in the running. A former Goldman Sachs CEO, Senator and Governor of NJ all rolled into one. He has that MF Global thing working against him but it's no more scandalous than some of the stuff Hillary found herself wrapped up in.

I think Hillary should pick Caitlyn Jenner and Donald should pick Kim Kardashian.

Sadly, those choices would excite a segment of the voting public.

I've heard rumors of who Trump might pick, and these rumors are awesome:

They are real life friends and are both about equally insane. I give it no chance (hey, like the song says!). Still, it's fun to think about.

If he picks Ted Nugent then I will die a happy death (unless they win).

Did you pay the $35 to get a new diploma from TESU?

If he did, they could play Wango Tango at the convention. Wango Tango Wango Tango Wango Tango! They could also tap that Duck Dynasty guy that Ted Cruz was always hanging out with.

I'm from San Antonio, and I thought Julian Castro was a good mayor.

Aren't Mayors in San Antonio figureheads? It's a part-time gig, right? The city is actually run by the City Manager and the 10 Council Members.

Hard to mess up a part-time non position.

Borough Presidents in New York are figureheads (though they are typically full time). But there have been people that the community recognizes as "good" Borough Presidents. The rest are just sort of mediocre.

It's hard to mess up. But "not messing up" doesn't win you praise from the people. I, and others in my family, often felt that Marty Markowitz was a "good" borough president. Though he has no actual authority his main job is to promote the borough. And MM did that pretty heavily (and with gusto).

I'm unfamiliar with San Antonio or its mayor. But if you made the same comment about a popular Brooklyn Borough President I'd probably tell you that if you never lived in Brooklyn you could stuff it.
