Muslim family kicked off flight demands apology from United Airlines - Chicago Tribune

"The removal came after the parents requested an additional strap for their youngest daughter's booster seat".

"Rehab said the family was ordered to exit the plane for security reasons. When the mother and father repeatedly asked the flight crew why they were being removed, they were told to exit "peacefully," return to the gate and await further instructions, Rehab said".

"Rehab said other passengers around the family joined the disruption and said, "They did nothing wrong."

I think they should do more than just demand an apology.

Picture is of Continental Airlines tails, for United story.

As for the story, the UA reason "child's safety seat ... did not comply with federal safety regulations", is plausible. The family's request for additional straps may corroborates this.

I do empathize with the family's embarrassment.

Should the next plane blow, and a video surfaces where muslims enter the plane, the airline will be chastised for lack of foresight.

Ultimately the captain makes the final decision. The pilot in command is legally responsible for the operations and safety of the plane and the passengers. 49 USC 44902, 14 CFR 121.533, and UN GC #27, article 12 of ICCPR.

A captain has the right to refuse transportation if the pilot believes it is necessary for safety. This has been tested many times in US and foreign courts.

I have been refused a few times. I take my luggage, and depart. No article, or apology.

Funny thing is when you watch the video I was like where's the Muslim family? they are white. I know Islam is a religion but normally you think of middle easterners as Muslim. Nothing more annoying than a white chick with a head scarf.

I once was sent to the airport to pick up two representatives of an Islamic organization seeking to partner with my employer. All I knew is that they were flying in from Dubai and that their names were Yahya and Mujahid. It turned out that they were a Scot and a German, respectively: European converts who showed up in business suits rather than Arabs wearing keffiyehs.

Conversely, there are Arabs who are Christian, and whose families have been Christian since Apostolic times. Several decades ago Dominica had an influx of Syrian immigrants, Maronite Catholics.

So yeah, you just never know with people.

My brother-in-law is of Portuguese descent, but was raised in India. He looks EXACTLY like Saddam Hussein when he grows his mustache out, and he's pulled for extra screening almost every time he goes through airport security. It doesn't even bother him anymore, he expects it and just laughs it off.

The country with the highest Muslim population is Asian (Indonesia). There are also a lot of black Muslims inside and outside of Africa. Technically, those who are genetically Arab (not just culturally) are classified as Caucasian. Many people in the Middle East and North Africa don't look much different from the Europeans just on the other side of the Mediterranean.

I don't have a problem with women wearing head scarfs. I would advise them not to wear to Ivanka Trump scarves atop their heads as they are prone to self ignite.

George Bush was very much against profiling Muslims back in the day. Has the current administration tightened security by profiling Muslims?

Two sides to the story I suppose.

When a white chick has one on watch out. They are looking for a fight and are very vocal, wearing their faith on a their sleeve. I would love to see the whole video.

There's a woman who works at the Syracuse airport who wears a headscarf. I was able to ascertain from her necklace that she is Sikh, not Muslim, however. So, perhaps you should remember that just because something looks like a hijab does not mean the wearer is Muslim.
