A chance to act presidential

Trump was quick to back up and defend his campaign manager after a reporter was assaulted without even knowing all of the facts. Lewandowski lied of course, but the truth has come to light in the form of a video and an eye witness, and charges have been filed.

Here is what his campaign manager used as an excuse:

"He didn’t know she worked for the Trump-friendly, right-leaning news outlet. Lewandowski mistook Michelle Fields for “an adversarial member of the mainstream media.” Will Trump act presidential for once, admit this was wrong and fire Lewandowski? I think we all know the answer is no. After all, he fosters this type of behavior. As they say, it starts from the top down. I can only call this Trump's alternate world.

Trump won't do it because his followers will think more of him if he doesn't.

You should combine all 14 posts you've started on Drumpf in the last three months into one thread.

He he. Trump fascinates me in a way. He does things that are way beyond the norm of main stream politics. I post about him here, because I am interested in hearing others comments, for and against, and he gives fresh material every hour on the hour. To me, this is a social experiment. This is nothing personal against Trump or his followers. To be honest, his unorthodox methods make things exciting. A break from the same old same old. If he becomes President, he becomes President. The world will not end.

He says what he wants. However, that has consequences. The press has given him a free pass so far, he is a money maker for them. His answers to questions are usually non answers, or fabrications. This is ok for now, but his detractors are keeping careful notes. Things will change dramatically, and the honey moon will be over when he faces Hillary Clinton. For example, the Megan Kelly incident. She asked him a perfectly reasonable question about his views on women. He responded by attacking her and playing the victim, hence he said she was "bleeding everywhere" or something to that effect. When the time comes, he is going to have to answer to her/others questions. Republican super pacs are already compiling ads they are going to run. Here is one:

Donald Trump | Our Principles PAC | Women

There will be more in regards to the violence and hateful environment he has created at his rallies. And this is coming from Republicans as well. These types of actions energize his base. However, he needs to appeal to more than his base to win. This is where he will become vulnerable.

And so I observe. I have been a voter long enough to not take these things personal. Like I said, if he becomes president, he becomes president. My world will not end. As a Hispanic American, I do worry about the racial divides that are being drawn, and the tone it is setting. It's just not good for the country. It's not the American way.

Good luck on your choice of candidates. May the best man or woman win. :) I have to go to class now. See ya.

Trump and Clinton are both so hated that between them there wouldn't be a winner so much as a survivor.

Except that it won't even be close. I would venture to say that Clinton's unfavorables will actually improve in comparison. I do not feel there is any other candidate, Democrat or Republican, who could make that happen besides Trump.

I'm not so sure it wouldn't be close. Remember when it was madness to think that he'd get the nomination?

Because presidential races tend to tighten near the end, "close" is an interesting concept. I would expect it to be along the lines of LBJ v AuH2O in '64.

    Drumpf

When you're "interested" in someone you post a ton of threads about them (Scot Walker ring a bell?). Make no mistake though it's clear that your mind is made up, everyone can see it but to couch it into some sort of ah shucks curiosity probing thing is disingenuous. Support your guy/gal and don't be shy about it, if you feel so strongly about politics and that you're on the correct side of things then post YOUR ideas and the policies of YOUR candidates. Not start threads in the hopes of stirring the pot, 14 threads on a guy you hate? That's really weird.

I'll address your last sentence. Good luck in MY choice? MY choice is irrelevant and I'll tell you why. It does not matter, period. What matters to me is that we do the best for this country and our people, period. If Obama has an idea that he thinks will work, it's not relevant that Cory agrees with it, what's most on my mind is that it works..period. I want Obama's policies to work. If Hillary wins and has ideas, I want them to work. I may not agree with some people on politically related stuff, but I want what is best for the most people in this country, period. I support Presidents...all of them. Even the ones I didn't vote for, my country and its people first...cheering on a political party is for Cowboy and Redskin fans or Steelers and Ravens fans. Noise for the rabble to give their meaningless lives some external meaning (My choice wins! That means I'm a winner!).

Really? We have a few people who constantly start threads about schools they hate generally when an article appears criticizing them.

Some people like to build up the things they like. Some people like to tear apart the things they hate. Others like to study things and people like specimens.

I find it interesting to read criticism of someone's prolific posting....in a post.

You're taking heat here, but I think your comparison of the political tribalism of party support to mindless sports team cheerleading is dead right.

    Hi Cory,

I think maybe you are reading into my comments, and making some assumptions. I don't think 14 posts about something is excessive. You question my intentions on curiosity probing, as you put it. I will share something with you. I post these things as they occur because I am interested in hearing the opinions of those here who I have found to be much more intelligent than me (including you). I will sometimes preface a question with "I ask this out of ignorance" because I wish to learn and understand. I have honestly never seen anything quite like Trump (what is drumpf btw?), and I am in awe of his meteoric rise, though he was dismissed early on. He does and says things that should have destroyed any Republican or Democratic politician, yet his numbers seem to rise. I have honestly never seen anything like it. I even agree with some of his policies. You know what? I see nothing wrong with building a wall. But then when he adds fuel to the fire by saying that Mexico sends murderers and rapist over here, it paints a group of us in a very negative light. How can he even claim that he is going to get Mexico to pay for it after he insults them? This is part of my dilemma in understanding the man.

If he become president, he becomes president. The world will not end. Of course we should respect the office of the Presidency, it is the American thing to do. Having said that, history teaches us that as Americans, we also have the right to question our leaders or potential leaders. They are not kings after all.

As far as Scott Walker? I have not thought about him in 10 or 15 years. I will say this. Though the core of my beliefs may be somewhat similar from what they were then, but at 50 I am a much different man then I was at say 35. I probably could have made my points without getting so hot headed, but that was then and this is now.

You speak about hate. Posting videos about current events doesn't mean I hate anybody. A near death experience some years back caused me to reassess my life and take inventory. From that tragedy, I began to see things differently. I dispensed with things like hate long ago, and replaced them with things like love. I am even trying to learn and practice the act of "turning the other check". This may sound cheesy to some, but sometimes certain events have a way of changing a man.

I know we may have exchanged some nasty words years ago, but I want you to know that I have come to like you and respect you. You even made some nice comments about my "going back to CC" thread, and I appreciate it.

Your snark might make sense if I made 13 more posts talking about Abner, but I won't. Just one, saying he should combine them nothing more than that.

I'm not sure I remember any nasty words about Scot Walker with me? I'm a bit acerbic at time, I admit that but I probably just noticed that you made a lot of threads about a guy who was governor of a state you did not live in, which I find interesting but I apologize if I said nasty things. And Abner I do like and respect you a lot. We share a common interest in the Martial Arts and of course in distance learning, so we have more in common than we think probably.

Sorry to hear about your near death experience but its great that you learned and continue to grow from that experience.

I'm in my mid 40's now....not quite as old and ancient as you ;) but hopefully wising up as I age.

    Take care ma'man.

Yeah, I am practically a fossil now. :) You got me thinking about Scott Walker. I think I recall him passing some kind of anti-union bill which spread to other states. Because of this my union targeted him. We didn't want the bill to pass in California. And we were successful in stopping the bill before it even started. I was EXTREMELY pro union then. I still believe in unions, but not as much ever since one of my own union brothers stabbed me in the back. At first I was very angry, but I think I was hurt more than anything.
