Jim Webb Talks About Threat of China to U.S.
    WSJ-Video: 10/13/2015 11:42PM
Democratic presidential candidate Jim Webb says the U.S. should stand up to China, particularly on cyberattacks.

Although not in full agreement with many of his political policy leaning; even so, I highly respect the overall character and accomplishments of Jim Webb https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jim_Webb. IMO, he would be the far more credible Presidential candidate as the Democrat Party nominee. Of course, he has zero chance in that happening in that the Party largely leans far-left of Webb. That’s too bad…

As a Republican … I would definitely cast my vote for Jim Webb vs. the likes of the carpetbagger, Republican asserting, Donald Trump—a narcissistic /conceited braggart, and who in my observation—lacks a grasp of genuine wisdom and the self-commitment required to serve the electorate.

How is Donald Trump a carpetbagger?

I'd vote for almost anyone besides a Socialist, which rules out all the people on stage the other night.

We're all socialists. It's just a matter of degree.

Jim Webb is a fine man and a patriot. But his run is a bit quixotic. He'd have been better served to stay in the spotlight provided by his Senate seat.

Is he a Northerner who went South to oppress the people?

Not so, Rich. I don't want the state to own any of the means of production, which makes me zero percent socialist.

I believe Trump to be in this race as purely an opportunist (self-serving). I’m not aware of Trump ever selflessly serving anyone or cause, in any capacity … other than to either directly or secondarily profit his own self-interest/s. I also highly doubt that he’s a Republican. Recall that he has a long relationship with the Clintons, as well as many democrat political figures over a lot of years. Of course in that he operates his business HQ out of NYC, and for the very most part … democrats are in charge of the political hierarchy within the Empire State.

And that’s certainly your propagative Bruce; nonetheless, I won’t cast a vote for Trump if he were to get the Republican nomination. Although … I do not consider he will.

I do not view Jim Webb as a Socialist; we do however, concur regarding the other hopefuls. IMO, Webb’s more of a Boll weevil political mind-set (conservative southern Democrat) and/or a 1990s Blue Dog democrat (conservative, pro-business views on monetary matters and more moderate politically on social issues). Of course whether Webb is either a boll weevil or blue dog democrat, or to some extent a mixture of both — as a democrat presidential nomination seeker — he’s absolutely DOA within the present Democratic Party.

    ^^This.

I don't necessarily agree, but not outrageous assertions. However, by the definition of the term, Trump isn't a carpetbagger.

The rumors of Trump's demise have been going strong since he got into the race. I think he actually has staying power, and considering the presumptive Democrat nominee is being investigated by the FBI, don't count him out in the general election.

Did you watch the debate? Hardly a word about Afghanistan, the ISIS threat, or the economy. It was all about the global warming scam, and who could give away the most "free" stuff to the lemmings. I put "free" in quotation marks because, like all Socialists, Sanders, Clinton, and the rest apparently haven't grasped the concept that SOMEONE has to pay for all the goodies they want the government to subsidize.

They're all self-interested. Trump is just unusually obvious about it.

He was a Democrat for a long time, and is on record as having spoken on the phone with Bill Clinton very shortly before announcing his candidacy. It may sound conspiratorial to suggest that he's trolling the GOP on behalf of the Clintons, but I just can't find it entirely implausible. (Kizmet, it's my new favorite conspiracy theory.)

While he was clearly underestimated by the GOP establishment, I still agree he's not walking away with the nomination.

I've heard he became a Democrat mostly because he hated Bush and George Allen, and because in Virginia it's typically been a little easier to be a moderate Democrat. Consider that Virginia is the state that as recently as twenty years ago had a Democratic governor with an A rating from the Cato Institute (Doug Wilder).

That potential has also crossed my mind…

And what’s the VERY first position Trump seeks external his own business holdings? He wants to begin his public political career in the utmost position as POTUS. Now there’s some obviousness to his self-absorbed temperament. It’s my view Donald Trump is not an individual motivated by an authentic belief of service to our Country, but simply a man seeking more personal power and acclaim…

    I agree..

Bruce, my intent in utilizing the carpetbagger terminology was more generally as a synonymous correlation to the opportunist being driven via self-interest …
