Not necessarily. Campaign finance regulations, including this one, are just an endless game of whack-a-mole where the moles have a lot more incentive to be quick than the hammer-wielding regulators do. So long as there is so much political power out there for sale, there will continue to be oceans of money in the political process to buy it. The only solution is for there to be less political power in the first place. Fat chance of that, though.

OK, so you're saying, "Do nothing?"

I'm saying that the only solution for this sort of corruption is for government to have less power, but when it comes to centralization of power in the U.S. that the trend has been in the other direction for a long time.

But yes, generally I think government is one of those bad things that is occasionally unavoidable, like natural disasters or ill health, and that it's best simply to route around it as best as possible and find something to do that actually increases value in the world instead of shouting at the hurricane telling it not to make landfall.

Your opinion is not uncommon but also not in the majority.
