Obama ad calls Romney 'the problem' with job losses to China

Undeterred by independent fact-checkers that have debunked the thrust of their claims, the Obama campaign is redoubling attacks on Mitt Romney as an "outsourcer" in a new TV ad airing in eight battleground states.

The 30-second spot — titled "The Problem" — claims Romney condoned the Chinese "taking our jobs and taking a lot of our future."

"He made a fortune letting it happen," the narrator says, focusing on Bain Capital outsourcing to China, a country Romney has vowed to challenge as president.

It's the latest in a steady drumbeat of negative attacks on Romney's record as a corporate buyout specialist, alleging he profited off of deliberately bankrupting companies and sending jobs overseas.

The inclusion of China in the new ad also comes as Obama tries to bolster his image as a hard-liner against China. On Thursday, the administration lodged a new complaint against China at the World Trade Organization, challenging tariffs on U.S. auto exports. The case coincided with Obama's campaign bus tour through auto manufacturing country of Ohio and Pennsylvania.

The Romney campaign called the latest ad a continuation of "desperate lies," citing reports by several independent fact-checkers that have discredited the suggestion that Romney himself had a direct role in relocating U.S. jobs overseas.

"We found no evidence to support the claim that Romney — while he was still running Bain Capital — shipped American jobs overseas," FactCheck.org concluded in a report last month.

Washington Post fact checker Glenn Kessler also concluded that while Bain-owned companies may have engaged in outsourcing, Romney's ties to the practice are tenuous.

The ad blitz comes in spite of Obama's comments to audiences on his bus tour last week decrying the negative tone of the campaign on TV.

"You guys are getting bombarded with all kinds of nonsense on TV. So I know that sometimes politics can be discouraging, and especially Washington politics can be discouraging, and it can seem small and it can seem petty," Obama said Friday.

Independent media monitors that track campaign advertising report that 76 percent of the TV ads Obama's campaign has aired over the past month have had a negative, "anti-Romney" message.

The new ad begins airing Saturday in New Hampshire, Virginia, North Carolina, Florida, Ohio, Iowa, Colorado, and Nevada, the Obama campaign said.

Brother Bobby. The point of my post was the flip flopping of Romney cited in the article. I think even a parrot could figure out that he flip flopped flip flopped flip flopped flip flopped....................... I don't think anyone can deny this, including him. What is good for the goose is good for the gander, or whatever that saying is. I am just worried those infernal flip flop chants will start up again. He he he he.

I am no "parrot" brother BJ.

I am not an expert in economic, but this is what I believe in. Outsourcing jobs to oversea countries does not jeopardize jobs for the American citizens. However, let people into the United States, and give them jobs...that jeopardize jobs for the American citizens.

I see lot of Indian students attended Master programs at Southern Methodist University; upon their graduations...most of them stayed in the United States for jobs.

Speaking for outsourcing jobs to oversea. Take a look at iPad, the cheapest one is $499.00 for lowest standard iPad. And it is made in China... will you as American want to pay higher ($799.00) for the same one that is made in the United States?

For the political stand points; well, every single candidate tries to do whatever it takes to knock out his or her opponent. I still remember what Obama said, he rather to be 1 term President instead 2 terms of mediocre President. Is the national economy any better under Obama's administration? So if he is running for President again, I assume he has assessed himself as a superior President.

I think that a sensible immigration plan could help with many of our ailments! We have a dearth of working age tax payers, and since we seem to have a habit ‘aborting’ our native (loosely defined as currently legal residents with a few ethnic exceptions) next generation, maybe sensible legal immigration is the proper solution.

I’m sidestepping the doomsday overpopulation scenario for now.

Yes 03310151 - I think maybe you’re correct (I was going to say ‘right’ but someone would jump on that) no .... way!

Ab’s apparent worldview (from all the indications on DI) can lead to protecting the non-innocent and looks for the ‘person/group/industry/whatever’ that did the ‘bad deed’, even when self-inflicted. This view certainly can lead to lack of responsibility and blaming others, when others may or may not be the problem. I don’t think you normally go there. :eek:k:

Not everyone needs any help at all inflicting harm to self, especially me! :smoker:

OK, if you want to talk about flip-flops: here’s one we can talk about – a similar healthcare act wasn’t nearly good enough in the Nixon admin, but it’s wonderful when proposed by the Obama admin? We could have amended the hell out of this thingie by now and it might even look acceptable to everyone today.

Are you positive? Or are you making a joke? If I recall correctly, you raised some virtual beers at my posts! There have been other conservatives who I have agreed with over the period of almost 10 years as a DI member.

I have no desire to prove myself, as it would irrelevant. If someone wants to dig up ten years of my posts, go for it!!!! :)

P.S. Bobby, stop smoking. Your mind can overcome any addiction. The powers of the mind are incredible.

Calm down BJ! This is not a personal fight. As a wise young Master once said here on DI, "You guys act as if you have a personal stake in this", and the young Master had a point. This is not personal, every man has to vote or decide for themselves. Even the ones that claim to be 100% unbiased. Life has taught me that no man is totally unbiased. Anyone who claims so is either crazy, or suffers from delusions of grandeur. Very few can attain Chun Tzu status.

Protecting the non-innocent? What the chuck!

As far as me agreeing with a conservative. That has happened several times on this, but apparently not enough for you. I do however, appreciate your psychoanalysis of me. In other words, mumbo jumbo.

As far as me relating to conservatives. Oh yes!!! We have a large portion of Republican union members who are active. Their points of view are heard, and their input welcome. We need every vote/member we can have. Welcome my Republican brothers and sisters.

On my similarities to Mitt Romney. (similarities)

**I own a sweet MBZ like Mitt does - pix on the board somewhere
**I like to travel to France, and have been known to speak French occasionally. I especially like Monacco, and have partied it up in style****
**I assume Mitt has an MBA since he knows everything about business? I have an MBA - Sweet
**I own a Rolex like Mitt

In other words, in the real world, people make assumptions about me. Most assume I am a Republican. Doesn't bother me at all. If I roll up to a protest, some union members assume I am a Republican, after all, I showed up in a in a sweet MBZ and Rolex? I have been known to hang out with staunch conservatives, including certain celebrities. I even took a DI member with me to a five star restaurant on a visit with one of my ultra rich celebrity friends!!! The horror! You know who you are? We had fun didn't we?

Never assume Bobby. You know what happens.

Abner aka Abs of steel!!!!! Yeah baby! The problem with you is you take this stuff personally. Politics are politics. Those who are in power will be talked about in a negative fashion. Attacks on Moral turpitude will take place. This is just the cycle of things. Republicans had there moment in the sun when they had GWB. So be it.

You claim I engage in harming myself? You mean like Self-flagellation? Oh please! I have my opinion, and the truth is you just don't like them and don't agree with them. Do I care? No

Projection Bobby. You are doing the very thing you accuse me of. That is truly harmful. Do not engage in Self-flagellation!

    See ya guys,

I have to go work on a sweet business project!!!!!!!!!! Abner

*****Please note fellow DI members**** I do not run a spell check through word****
