"After days of denials, a choked-up New York Democratic Rep. Anthony Weiner confessed Monday that he tweeted a photo of his bulging underpants to a woman and admitted to "inappropriate" exchanges with six women before and after getting married. He apologized for lying but said he would not resign."

    Is he being prosecuted?

I don't think so. Who cares...I am more concerned that someone is a Democrat vs. sending pictures in his underpants :boggled:

I tried to think of reasons to care about this story, but I got distracted by real news along the way. Nonetheless, since I have nothing else to post about today...

Rep. Weiner is extremely entertaining, but is ultimately a hypocrite who forcefully called for the new healthcare bill while quietly requesting that New York get a waiver from that same bill.

Now Republicans, even the ones who have been publicly outed as adulterers, will claim moral high ground over him and blame liberalism for... I don't know, something about "the children" I suppose?

In other news, interesting things are happening... somewhere. Unconfirmed reports are coming in that at least one person still has a life- however the Skeptics Society has released a statement saying that no such life exists and the American Counsel of Philosophy is still divided on what, if anything, that life means.

Did anyone who watched his incoherent explanations really think that he was not the one who sent the photo? What a distraction. Good thing that they are covering this so heavily rather than things that matter to most people. At least now there is something to talk to the cashier at the grocery store about to draw your attention away from the fact that you are spening more money each week for the same items. The whole lot of them are a big dissapointment.

Yes. Politicians from both sides of the isle have done not good things.

The healthcare waiver for New York was discussed in the following article. I agree that it appears he's being a hypocrite. Anthony Weiner: Waiver might work for New York - Kate Nocera - POLITICO.com

As far as prosecuting Weiner, I don't know if any charges are being filed or what reprimands will result. I wonder if there is hope on capital hill among some Democrats that the public will forgive, move on, and forget. What I believe will happen is that Weiner will be quietly pressured to resign or he may just decide not to run, as was the case with Larry Craig.

It is not a big deal his photo was exposed on the Internet, but the big deal that he lied to the public. He blamed on hackers exploited his Twitter account.

Well, his surname is Weiner...then what do you expect, of course nudity.

He can't be forced to resign over this. All he's done was lie publicly about the matter, and if that alone were grounds for removal from office then there would be no politicians left.

    Dr. Randell,

I have a second thought about Weiner resignation. He shouldn't resign or force to be resigned. In fact, he should run for the Presidency because America need more WEINER over PUSSY in the whitehouse. hahaha

What? That did not fit your post at all....had to get a jab in at the right did we?

It fit my post perfectly. That is the natural aftermath to be deduced from the preceeding events. Politics is a three-ring circus where the only thing to be expected is that they are all hypocrites and will continue to behave themselves, and speak to others, in ways that a kindergarten teacher would never allow in class. To me, politics and polititian are dirty words. Ok, fine- I admire the Mayor of Whoville, but I highly doubt that he was elected democratically.

Here's why it matters. If he hasn't broken any laws then it just becomes a PR issue. That means that if you throw enough money at it you can change the minds of most Americans (it's that nasty short term memory thing, remember?) You may not like it but he is not required to resign and anyone who is THAT narcissistic isn't going to resign easily. He may be embarrassed right now but I'll bet he still runs for mayor of NYC.

Everyone remembers Monica Lewinski but Bill Clinton seems to be doing quite well these days. Americans love scandals but they also love their bad boys.

I find their literature interesting, and tend to find myself even more skeptical than your average skeptic- at least your avergage skeptic who blogs. Of course, they'd never let me into their little club because my inquiring mind has determined, with certitude, the existance of *gasp* God. Let the childish ridicule and shameless ad hominem begin...

I found a copy of the magazine once in a Barnes & Noble bookstore and bought it out of curiosity. There was some interesting stuff in it. To me, the most interesting part is the basic idea of critically examining everything. In my experience, most people just accept what they are told by their parents, teachers, etc. and never really think things through themselves.

That is what I most like about skepticism, and why I generally have a positive opinion about skeptic websites. I've been entirely disapointed to learn that much of what my parents and school teachers tried to teach me was incorrect. Not meaning simply that my opinion differs from theirs, but that their "facts" were incorrect, and I've at times found myself embarassed when someone points out to me that what I've always "known" isn't even true. This disapointment is hightened now that I work mainly in classrooms and have to force my mouth shut when the teachers impart to their students urban legends, folk knowledge and backwards logic as authoritatively as they teach spelling and arithmatic.
