Newt self destructs, Romney never started and now TPaw tosses his hat in the ring

So far Tim Pawlenty looks like a better fitting alternative than what the GOP has seen emerging from the swamp waters recently. Still not my first pick but better than Newt or Romney (who are interchangable as far as I'm concerned). I don't expect Ron Paul to make serious trouble for any real contenders. Any thoughts on Michele Bachman?

And for the love of God...please don't run Sarah Palin. Pretty please with a cherry on top...

Pawlenty is a RINO. He'll struggle to get votes from conservative groups.

I heard Cain's speech and it had me a little bit fired up, though I don't know much else about him. I also heard that Chris Christie might run (which is good), old Rudy might run (which is bad), Sarah Palin might run (which is dead on arrival), Rick Perry might run (a Texas version of Mitt Romney). Chris Christie would be great and I would love to learn that Cain is a stand up contender.

I heard Paul Ryan's name was kicked around, but the GOP thought his attempts at trying to privatize social security would sink him, since most Americans are against the idea. Just what I heard.

    See ya broheim,

The sad thing is Paul Ryan's plan is logical and would solve a problem that everyone wants to ignore for political reasons. At the very least you have to admire the guy's courage.

I believe Rick Perry will run. He’s been a pretty good Governor (longest serving in Texas history) and has never lost an election. Add-in that he’s a sitting Governor, Texas A&M alum (1972), and unlike the rest of the GOP field so far (excepting Ron Paul), a former US Air Force officer and C-130 tactical airlift aircraft pilot (e.g., imagine this...a veteran). Never discount the vastness of the TAMU alumnus network, its far reaching influence, deep pockets and ability to raise enormous amounts of money. And not that all economic credit can be attributed to Governor Perry, but Texas has been without fail ranked as the nation’s best place to do business and create jobs; this would play well toward his campaign. Remember, people will habitually vote presidential elections via their “pocketbooks”.

That's high praise for ol' "Tricky Ricky". This is the same guy who would turn your driveway into a toll road if he could, attempted the single largest land grab in the history of Texas under eminent domain (the Trans Texas Corridor), mandated HPV vaccinations to all girls in Texas despite safety concerns and potential side effects...and don't forget he recieved campaign contributions via Merck (the company that made the vaccination) and they of course later hired Perry's chief of staff as a lobbiest.

Honestly Ricky reminds me of a George Bush Sr. in his neo-con views and Bill Clinton in his snake oil salesmanship.

I say we dig up Ronald Regan and run him. His corpse could do a better job than Obama.

Say friendorfoe … lighten up. Rick Perry may likely run; and if he were to run and win the GOP primary, he’ll beat Obama. Nonetheless, every time something is posted about a presidential candidate or possible candidate that seemingly doesn’t meet your political bend or opinion; you again swing into your own self-serving diatribe. And if Huckabee was your self-chosen candidate, get over it … he’s out. Oh by the way, who else also reminds you of Bush Sr. other than Romney and now Perry? Moreover as regards “high praise” toward Perry, I merely passed on some facts and considerations. You obviously don’t care for Rick Perry and that’s your right, and more importantly … who cares! Either way, he could positively beat Obama with or without your vote.

Major, this is a political discussion (presumably for grown ups)...if my Perry bashing hurts your feelings then feel free to not participate. As for "self serving diatribe" you lost me...exactly how is my bashing Perry using those pesky little facts self serving? If you have an opposing view with "pesky little facts" let's hear it.

Huck wasn't my "guy" but he seemed honest enough to get the job done and call me crazy but I'm not an "anybody but Obama" guy in the sense that who the GOP puts into the White House matters and if we settle for just anyone, we'll do the country harm just like putting the wrong Democrat into office would.

Romney and Perry are both career politicians who despite themselves just do not seem honest and forthright, especially about being "conservative". Living in Perry's state and seeing him on the news with regularity it's funny how Perry is conservative for every election year and a neo-con afterward. Romney likewise is a neo-con (ala Bush Sr.) who trade on the conservative brand and like to toss names like "Reagan" around despite having nothing in common with the man aside from being Republican. I guess you could say "more of the same" isn't going to cut it this time around and I think the American people are starting to get fed up with both parties, I know I am.
