If anyone is heading to SA for any reason be carefull! 4 South African police officers killed - FoxNews.com
Lol. It's really not like that. Most visitors are not going to be doing tours of overpopulated shanty towns or rural backwaters but will more likely be in more cosmopolitan, wealthier areas where things will probably be surprisingly similar to home.
It's like Americans avoiding Australia after a saltwater crocodile somewhere in the remote Northern Territory. An Australian friend once told me that the only "big saltie" he'd ever seen was in a zoo.
What are you talking about? All I said was be carefull if your going to SA...never said for anyone to avoid it!
Years ago, there was a woman in Los Angeles who wrote an extremely useful guide for Americans who wished to deal with the University of South Africa, where she was a student. Many of my readers bought it from her, and found it helpful. Then she went to Pretoria, and had a very scary experience traveling between her hotel and the University, and she ended up withdrawing from the University, and withdrawing her book. I made contact with her a few years later, and she was adamant about not revisiting the process or her book, nor would she say what had happened to cause this. FWIW, South Africa is no longer on the Lonely Planet list of top ten most dangerous countries for travelers (Somalia, Iraq, Afghanistan, Congo, Central African Republic, Haiti, Chad, Burundi, Pakistan, Sudan].
Damn it Wild Bill! Now you have me wondering who would win in a fight between a big saltie, and a big sharky. I'll be thinking about this all day! Abner
