Dude it's about time....but why not let the media obtain the copy from the state? Now we have to here about how he doctored it. It's like he wants the drama.

 

Interesting. Look at the check box near the bottom where it allows you to mark "MD, DO, midwife" but I don't think DOs could practice until later, like the late late 60's. Why would that be an option on an old form?

 

If you read the source materials, you'll see the President had his private counsel request that the State of Hawaii violate its longstanding policy, and the State of Hawaii had to agree to waive its policy. It's not nearly as simple a matter as folks seem to think. I highly doubt this disclosure will change the minds of very many of those who believe the President is not a natural born U.S. citizen.

 

Hawaii has licensed osteopathic physicians to practice since at least 1921.

 

Thats why I wouldn't have bothered, if I was the president. He is not gaining anything from this. The folks that doubted where he was born would NEVER vote for him anyway. Does anyone honestly believe that ANY of these birthers are now going to support him for 2012?

He should have let this keep going while the GOP rips itself apart.

Now hopefully the matter can be put to rest. As the birther dust settles, international conflicts and a frail economy will still be at his door step.

I am by no means a birther. I just find it strange that the President of the U.S. waited until 2.5 years into his term to produce a document that I had to produce to enlist in the Army, I had to provide for my kids to enroll them in school, I had to provide for a passport, etc. As if the double-standard for those who serve in government was not blatant enough.............

This is blatantly inaccurate. The document that Hawaii issue to ALL people born there is the short form birth certificate. ANY potential enlistee into the military born in Hawaii, and ANY person born in Hawaii who is trying to get a U.S. passport would get the EXACT SAME short form birth certificate that the President released 2.5 years ago. That short form birth certificate is the ONLY birth certificate the state will issue NOW.

The only reason why the president was able to get the long form birth certificate this week was that his private attorney had to request to the state of Hawaii that they BREAK THEIR OWN RULES and get a copy of the original birth certificate. The only special treatment/double standard that was here was that this week, the president's lawyer got Hawaii to make an exception to their rules and released his long-form birth certificate.

Something similar happened in my home state of Illinois. I was born back in the '70s, and my original birth certificate looked a lot like the President's long form birth certificate, which is also what I suspect your birth certificate looked like. When I went to elementary school, my mom requested another copy of my birth certificate and got a copy of the same long form birth certificate.

Around 2004, I wanted to get a passport and didn't have a copy of my birth certificate. When I went to get a copy of my birth certificate they gave me a certificate similar to the short form the president initially submitted. I asked about it back then, since it looked so different from my original certificate, and the response I got was that this is what the state of Illinois was issuing now, NOT copies of my original birth certificate. Did the U.S. state department have any problems issuing me a passport with this new, shortened birth certificate? OF COURSE NOT.
