    Election /voter fraud (?).

    More from Wisconsin…

“On Thursday, Waukesha County Clerk Kathy Nickolaus said that she failed to save on her computer and then report 14,315 votes in the City of Brookfield, omitting them entirely in an unofficial total that she released after Tuesday's election. With other smaller errors in Waukesha County, that meant incumbent Supreme Court Justice David Prosser gained 7,582 votes over challenger JoAnne Kloppenburg, leaving the sitting justice significantly ahead for now amid ongoing official counting.”

    The link doesn't work.

When I heard about this, I had the same knee-jerk reaction that a lot of other people did. This is just too strange, too convenient, too many votes magically found. If there is any funny business at all, I hope it gets uncovered and the people involved get punished severely.

Either way, the County Clerk should be fired and never, ever, ever, allowed an important governmental job ever again. She has a history of bumbling her responsibilities and to keep her on now would be an embarrassment.

I forever give people the benefit of the doubt, so until evidence shows otherwise, I'm not going to call this voter fraud. I would like to believe, and I hope it comes to light, that it really was just a clerical error and that the process has not been corrupted.

"The critics noted that Nickolaus had worked for Prosser when he was the Republican legislative leader in the Assembly and she was a staffer with the Republican caucus. She left after being granted immunity in a criminal investigation that found staffers in both parties' caucuses were illegally performing campaign work. An audit last year criticized her for keeping election information on a private computer in her office that could not be examined by county staff, leading to a severe chiding from county supervisors." - LA Times

    1. The Office of the County Clerk is an elected position in Wisconsin.
    2. There is no required education, training or experience required to get on the ballot as a candidate for County Clerk.

Appears the requirements are like most all elected public sector positions…
