  1. Sarah Palin: I Would Run For President

It has become quite obvious that Sarah Palin is flirting with the idea of running for President. Would you vote for her? She'd be the first President to have ever gone to community college. Does that mean she's unqualified or that regular people relate to her?

Not a US citizen, but if I was, I wouldn't vote for her.

She flirts with anything that feeds her ego.

It would depend on who she was running against. In the primaries, there would almost certainly be somebody that I respect and trust more. In a general election against Barack Obama, I'm less sure.

I see Palin and Obama as kind of mirror-images of each other. Both of them seem to be creatures of the unrealistic idealism of their respective parties' ideological bases. In terms of experience and accomplishments, both of them are light-weights who surfed to political prominence by riding a wave of popular anti-incumbent sentiment. (Obama against Bush and his party, Palin against Obama and his party.)

I see both Palin and Obama as possessing similar faults. Neither of them are the kind of people that I'm comfortable with at the helm of the world's strongest (for now) nation.

Substantially, I don't think that it matters. Politically, it might be possible for her spinners to use it to help promote a "regular people" populist theme. That's going to be one of Obama's big weaknesses. He just seems so... remote... from the culture, lives and concerns of average America.

It seems alot easier for Palin to run around using the Tea Party. The problem is when it comes to answering serious policy questions, she sounds "flat," and the "whole thing comes crumbling down." Obama , on the other hand, sounds intelligent with a good grasp on the issues, despite his other faults and perceived extremist views (depending on your idealogical disposition). Palin may pull off whatever she wants inside the republican party, but i'm afraid, Palin cannot win a general election if she faces Obama, and I think the more rationale Republicans know this. Bottom line, for the republicans to win in 2012, they must front a candidate that can win. Tea party candidates may intimidate the republican party, the general population will refuse to be intimidated and their candidate/s will be outrightly rejected. So NO, I will never vote for Sarah Palin as long as "Joe 6 pack" or "hunker down" continue to dominate her vocabulary.

  6. I think IF Sarah Palin were elected she would be completely ineffectual. She'd be a lame duck President that would probably repeatedly make gaffes and turn the US into an international joke. After four years the repercussions for Republicans/conservatives would be severe.

"hell no" I'll just vote for the democrat or libertarian. People that cater to the republican extremists are responsible for our incarceration rate and loss of freedom through nasty problems like the patriot act. I'm all about freedom, and I've recently decided that the republicans are more at fault than the democrats (they are both really bad!). I would sooner vote for a liberal extremist than a conservative one. What I really want is a moderate libertarian, preferably running on the republican ticket.

I would love to vote for a woman, I would love nothing more than to vote for somebody who attended a community college, and yes, that does make a candidate more approachable in my view. If she wasn't so party line I would consider it, but she's bad news. Really bad news. Really, really, really, really, bad news.

She was the main reason I didn't vote for McCain, which is too bad, because I liked him better than Obama. But McCain is getting older and the though of her running the country was enough for me to change my vote.

The sad part is, I don't think Palin would really even be known if it weren't for McCain.

While I wouldn't vote for her, it is more because I disagree with her political views than think that she dumb or unqualified. She is very attractive and speaks well but represents a point of view that would be quite harmful for urban America.

Foreign policy-wise, there really is not much difference from administration to administration. Bush 1 had us in Gulf war I. Clinton had us in Bosnia and Haiti, and in doing so set the precedent for the U.S. military to become engaged in nation building. Bush 2 sent out troops into Afghanistan and Iraq in seemingly endless wars. Obama was strongly opposed to our involvement in Iraq so he pulled out combat troops but left 50,000 troops as trainers (yeah, sure they are). He then surged our troop levels in Afghanistan and increased the level of drone strikes on Al Qaeda targets in Pakistan. While the rhetoric has been very different, the actions on the ground are really more of the same.

Eh? When she speaks, she sounds like the words are trying to force themselves back down her throat.

  12. If this poll is any indication of Palin's future success, she probably shouldn't run.

From everything I have read about Palin and her supporters, I have a feeling that if she runs, those who vote for her will by and large do so out of an "US vs THEM" attitude rather than out of careful consideration of her ability to take on the job. The thing is, however, there are a lot of people who are like that, and their voice has been ringing increasingly loudly all across the country.

I have a great disdain for her made-for-Disney persona. The grown-up version of Miley Cyrus, bought and paid for, and sold to the sexually repressed angry right wingers.
She's a huge hit in West Texas.
    But so's Rick Perry.

Hell no! I live in AK and she was a horrible gov who quit because she thought it was so hard. She is about herself and herself only and how much money she can make. I know of no one who would vote for her. We are all just glad she is gone.

Yes, I could based not on her rhetoric but on her record of moderation as governor of Alaska.

Actually I'm going to dig deep into the DL archives here and paraphrase Les Snell from the diploma mill Monticello University

When Sarah Palin speaks, she subtracts from the sum total of human knowledge.

As for Obama and Palin being on opposite sides of the spectrum, I can see that argument. The difference, for me, is while Obama has his issues, we're talking about someone who is extraordinarily intelligent and has a deep understanding of constitutional law, and who seems to genuinely want to do the right thing for the country, even if some of his execution may be misguided or ineffectual.

Sarah Palin, on the other hand, is probably one of the stupidest people *ever* to get any serious attention in national politics. She is also, as other posters have said, egotistical, and seems focused only on herself. Not only would she be a godawful president that makes Bush II look like Einstein, but I'm guessing that the rest of the world would lose whatever respect they still have for the US.
