I saw on the news the other day that Obama was 10 points ahead of McCain in Virginia. It looks as if a major shift is taking place, as Virginia seems to have been traditionally Republican. Granted we did elect the first black governor since Reconstruction back in 1988. Wilder was a democrat and is now mayor of Richmond. (And the former mayor of Richmond, Tim Kaine, is now governor... it's political musical chairs!)

We have/had the soon to retire Republican John Warner as a Senator. We had Republican Senator George Allen, but he lost reelection to Democrat Jim Webb after that macaca thing. Now Democrat Mark Warner is set to take John Warner's Senate seat. Looks like Virginia is shifting its political leanings.

I haven't been paying too much attention to what's happening in other states. Is this type of thing happening elsewhere? Red becoming Blue or Blue becoming Red?

Both of the Congressional seats nearby are going Democrat. In Northern Virginia, at least, there is a real feeling of change from red to blue.

Maybe people finally realized they need to vote in their best interest, instead of culture war issues?

It seems that way, for once.
