Is anyone following this Stalinist campaign?

Is it me or do we have ample availiblity of opinion in our world of TV, Radio, Newspaper, and Internet news? Why would they want to targe speach on the radio??

    Lets speculate for a moment..

Could it be becuase every effort by the left to do "talk radio" has met with embarrasing failure? And now they want to force themselve onto people who chose to change the channel rather than listen to their nonsense? This is typical of socialist who hate a free market because, well they dont win.

And the great thing is the bills proposer says that it will only affect radio! I know some of you guys really hate the Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannitys of the world, but free speach is free speach. Wonder why TV and Movies are not affected.

If this goes through I know one thing. I will be buying stock in either Sirius or XM radio.....Then the public airwaves will be govt run fluf like on NPR. Which also is not supported by ratings by the way...

Sorry had to rant...but this is a bit scarey...might sound ok to dems now, but as we see, politics is a big cycle

NPR is government subsidized, not government run, and even the subsidy is a minority of their costs. I fond their news is left-leaning on environmental issues and gun control (victim disarmament), but overall it's not bad.

If you want to check out U.S. government run news, you need to go all the way to the Voice of America.

I just dont want them dictating content. Especially political speach! Where is the free market. Do we need to yell communist here or what? This is clearly an attempt to drown talk radio. They know that if the force a conservative talk show host to "share time" with an outside interests. Obviously no one want to advertise on "air america" style radio, so now they want to peel off of the "winners'" of the ratings battle. Sounds Like a progressive tax structure...tax the successful a higher percentage...

Sorry still makes me nutz thinkin about it...

    Victim Disarmerment? Now thats funny....

I think the democrats are going too far. I would say the same thing if republicans were doing this. I am totally against the Fair Doctrine thing. We have already gone so far left with being "politically correct" that it is hurting our nation. Wut iz we goin' to do?

Personally, I think talks radio has gotten out of control. In fact, I believe they are borderline anti democracy. someone is always trying to force their views on you by criticizing or alienating people who doesn't go along with their views.
One perfect example--if you don't believe in G**, you are ostracized from the society. You are treated like you have some kind of disease. Even though, you have the right not to listen to their garbage, you cannot escape their scrutiny.

lspahn: Do you even know what the heck a communist is? The communist approach would be: Look, I'm the government, I own all the radio stations, and everybody else shut up unless I choose you to read my pre-defined party line on the airwaves. Clearly, that is not at all what's going on here.

There's nothing anti-democratic about talk radio, and they don't force their views on anyone. If you don't like what they have to say, then don't listen to them. I surely don't. And what scrutiny?

Well, if you don't like it, don't listen. As George Carlin said a long time ago, "There's two knobs on the radio. One changes the station and the other turns it off. How about that?"

    Censorship pisses me off.

Ok one at a time..long weekend sorry..

When I said stalinist, I ment the governments ability to force an opinion on people. Not ment to isolate one party or another, just a very slippery slope any time you dictate speach..

And yes, in case anyone didnt notice there little knobs and buttons the radio change the channel. But that isnt really the issue is it???

The issue is left wing radio has been driven into the ground over and over again because there IS NOT MARKET. I find that interesting. The only way the could get a market is if Rush Limbaugh listerns,(O, the #1 Talk radio show by the way...ratings are tough huh?) are forced to listen. That is total insanity. Air America was a total failure from the begining. It NEVER had sponsors and had to be supported by Soros money to survive. If your opinion has legs, it will carry, if not it will die like Air America. Sorry, free market is a b!tch, but the socialist agenda does hate the free market. The real goal is to ruin the market FOR talk radio. If you cant beat'em, destroy'em with government.

AND...It wont apply to Hollywood..Convient huh??? It amazes me how people for free speach only want theirs heard.....Extremism is extremism folks...doesnt matter if its wrapped in red or blue.....

Wannabeit...Dont listen dude..If the people talking trash on the radio piss you off change the channel, call the station, call the advertisers, but you never ever want the government involve..I agree there is hateful speech..ever listen to Al Fraken? I did...laughed my butt off, was like listen to Daffy Duck...But do you really want to open a can of worms were we limit political speech? How far behind are sign carrying clowns on the street corners after radio is silenced?

I agree there was insufficient market for Air America, but there's enough market for NPR that it would continue even without subsidy. I don't find NPR as left-leaning as some people, but it's certainly not conservative.

Now, if you want outright unabashed leftism, there's Pacifica Radio, which was founded in the late '40s by a group of people who had been conscientious objectors during the second world war. They've managed to keep going for almost sixty years despite what is probably not a huge audience.
