Anybody remember this guy ? My favorite spin artist and likely running mate to any smart presidential candidate in the 2008 election, “Baghdad Bob”! Like many people, I was (and still am) a huge fan. However, something started to bother me the other day.

I finally put my finger on it. In addition to some of the now classic gems that Bob blessed his audiences with (“There are no Americans in Baghdad!”, as the M1-A1 tanks rolled behind him in the distance), there was another partial quote that I remembered:

“We have drawn them into a quagmire and they will never get out of it.”
    - Mohammed Saeed al-Sahaf, AKA “Baghdad Bob”

That chilled me to the bone, given the current state of the war in Iraq. When “Bob” is starting to look more like Prophet than Pundit, things are getting very scary……...

The guy was hilarious. What a clown. Well, I guess even a broken clock is right twice a day. Regarding this Iraq issue, it is easy to talk afterwards (we all thought the guy had those weapons, we all had seen how he had used them in the past against his own people), but it was definitely a mistake. Now, when the civilized world faces the real evil (Iran and Syria), the US will find a lot of difficulties to obtain support from other countries. Things look very bad in Iraq, and the greatest problem is that as soon as the US pulls out, a civil war will break dividing the country in three parts, and breaking current, already fragile, political equilibria. What comes out of that, if the us leaves, the new ME political order will be "a priori" unknown but we can be sure it will be very scary. Regards

PS Someone should level to the ground those nuclear facilities in Iran. That may help alleviate the anxiety of many.
