Degreeinfo is a wonderful site(I wish I'd been here sooner!). This is my first posting--I hope it's in the correct forum.

This past summer, I had enrolled in a web-based upper division course in my major, History, through a well known distance learning college. All of my coursemates were current and past servicemembers or DoD staff. I was the only student from outside of that culture. Naturally, current events topics were discussed. Unfortunately, the prevalent viewpoint of my peers was that of a personality cult toward our President.

I am very much a centrist, and the political scales were tipped far from moderation. Knowing that my classmates could be employed in intelligence fields made me hold my thoughts; the chilling effect led me to withdraw.

After the recent revelations revelations about CIFA, the Eagle Eyes Program and TALON spying on Quakers and anti-war groups, I feel that my apprehension was well-founded. It is disappointing that opposing a government's policies can lead to someone being labeled an enemy of the state or terrorist.

Does anyone else think that Distance Learning courses can be corrupted by cointelpros?

Gosh! I never thought about that possibility! Welcome to the boards! If you need any help finding a degree program, just give me (us) a holler!
