U.S. "control" of the Internet appears to be under attack.

Sure, the 'Net is a global phenomenon, a worldwide resource, a platform for cross-national and cross-cultural egalitarianism and equal opportunity, I guess.

But, frankly, turning control of the 'Net over to some, maybe, Al-Qaida-sympathizer country or communalistic/socialist/anti-US commerce European state, etc., also bothers me no end.

I think we should let sleeping dogs lie - not to imply, in the least - that the Internet is one giant sleepy arena. It is changing - and will continue to change - for the better.

    What say ye?

    Thanks.

The internet is more open than any speech forum has ever been so, yes, let it be.

The physical structure of the internet is open to any number of protocols to compete with the protocols we know as the internet. Let any who wish to create competing protocols do so and let users decide which they will use.

Yet again. This is a recurring theme. Don't worry, too much, about it.

Well, I think that control of the Internet should go to whoever invented it (unless the inventor sold the rights to it). Not sure, however, whether that would be Al Gore or whomever else.

There is nothing quite like a good European whine.

If that was the case, control of the World Wide Web (but not necessarily the Internet) would go to the Europeans, specifically to Sir Tim Berners-Lee and CERN.

    No Reason Yet

People will talk about it but the USA has no real reason to let go of control yet.

I'm on an email list for Caribbean ICT stakeholders. One thing that amused me recently was that the regular participants were arguing vehemently about whether the region was sufficiently represented at some recent convention on Internet governance held by international bureacrats. I couldn't see the point of fighting for representation on a body whose recommendations would be so resoundingly ignored.
