There was a demonstration on Saturday in downtown Fort Lauderdale. A bunch of people were hanging out with signs saying things like "Cindy Sheehan, Hero" and "Honk 4 Peace" and the like. Not sure if were part of an orchestrated effort or just a local phenomenon.

Isn't the focus on Ms. Sheehan much ado about nothing?

I can't think of a single war the U.S. was ever involved in that didn't spark protest from some element or person within her borders.

When JFK mobilized the Reserve for Berlin (IIRC), there were 'Reserve Wives' pushing baby carriages in front of the White House.

  5. She's an idiot jerk!

Cindy Sheehan is a disgrace to the left.

    Why? Here's why....

Because she is hysterical, she blames the "Bush crime family" for her son's death, but doesn't seem to recall that an Iraqi insurgent killed him, not US troops and certainly not the "Bush crime family"..... Talk about misplaced anger!! And, of course she has some sort of pseudo moral high ground because, yes, she did lose her son in the war. But instead of coming up with good arguments against war in general, and our policy in the Middle East, she mouths the tired old cliches that are fed to her by her keepers - equally idiotic leftists who wouldn't lift a finger to defend either themselves or the country that gave them the right to dissent.

She's an idiot. An idiot jerk even.

She thinks we live in a world where peace and love and compassion can convince evil-doers and terrorists to lay down their arms. Where the US and the industrial nations can simply "do without oil". Where power politics and spheres of influence are no longer relevant, because the "bad guys" will certainly back off if we just act "nicer".

    Wow.

    Duh.

I'm a leftist, but I'm no idiot (which I'm certain all on this board will heartily agree with.... ha!)

  6. How times change!

Except that back then those stupid moms were discredited in general as hysterical know-nothing women who rightfully had no input into the conduct of foreign policy of a superpower. Now we give them credence..... much to our loss (thank you feminism)....

Well, there is that house thing. :)

Cindy Sheehan is a sad case. Her over-the-top statements are losing her sympathy even among her family. She's probably sacrificed too much credibility to effectively challenge any Bush policies so I hope she can pull herself together and get on with life.

Hey! On that "house thing", in my defense, I had like two days to find an acceptable place to live in WV - no easy task. We basically took the first thing (after seeing dozens of shacks) that seemed remotely acceptable in order to get settled as part of my relocation for a new job.... So we were hasty with inspections, and too trusting in the god-fearing nature of what we thought were "Norman Rockwell" characters in WV - only to find out that many of them are the scariest and most unscrupulous people I've ever met in my life. Not just scary and unscrupulous, but backwards and proud of it too.... Let's just say it has been a bit of an adjustment for us!

    Wow!

Have the West Virginian environs mollified Mr. Reginstein's leftist perspectives?

If you hold to that logic it pretty much nullifies any movement, whether significant or not.

Sheehan is right. Bush is a liar. Now as military men and women are coming home maimed and in need of greater benefits, the Bush is Administration is nowwhere to be found. And they wonder why they can't recruit enough new military. Sound a little familiar? Just think back to his Daddy's war.

I must agree. Sheehan is merely exercising her rights as an American.

    Ummm.....

What exactly are you trying to say? That women don't have the right to speak out? Or that anyone with a different viewpoint from the powers that be have a right to voice their opinions?

The right to be an idiot? Seriously, Bush met with her and she was at least some what comforted by it. I am sorry but I think she has unfortunately turned into a Michael Moore type brain-washed caricature. She certainly is free to do that but it is rather sad.

    Is it just me?

Or do some of the posts here hate every victory Bush has and would like to see him fail even if it crushed the U.S.? My god people this is a man 2x elected President of U.S. by a solid margin. Can't you find a way to support him and our country even if your politcal views are vastly different?

So you are saying if someone wants to disagree with their President or other elected officials, they are idiots? Wow, come on Dave!

    Ummm no,

I didn't say or even insinuate that. Cindy met with President after her son's death and was comforted. She said nice things about him to the press. Now she calls him a murderer and other horrific things w/o ration or reason. Her actions seemed staged by a handler. Having a free mind and free speech is very American. Unfortunately many waste these rights with illogical words and actions.

What are we supporting? This is a man who squandered, I mean absolutely squandered, all of the goodwill post 9-11. He lied about Iraq, and this has caused huge losses in lives and dollars. He is bankrupting the economy through typical Republican big government and deficit spending. He appoints unqualified cronies to crucial positions. His highly touted homeland defense is a joke. He is unable to admit mistakes, and is uncommonly talented at saying and doing the wrong thing at the most crucial times.

I support the country, but not Bush. This means getting a Dem in the White House next time. We need a president who can see beyond the end of his nose. His presidency has been a disaster. We will be paying off his debt for many years to come.

Trying replacing "Bush" with "Clinton" in your last paragraph and backing up 6 years or so. Sound familiar?

Finally, what are the Bush victories? Remind me, cause I forget.

As Americans with free will, we have a right to change our minds. If she did change her mind after many days/hours of reflection, is that a crime?

On a personal level, I'm sure she was comforted. I'm sure Bush was genuinely sorry for her loss (who could not be?). This doesn't change the circumstances around the war, and the huge losses that Bush and the rest of his administration have foisted on Americans under the guise of "patriotism" and the "war on terror."

Bush must bear responsibility for this war. It is his baby (along with his "advisors"). He pushed it. He lied about the reasons for it. And he continues to peddle it to a doubting public. More and more, Americans don't believe it. He has some of the lowest approval ratings in history. There's a reason for that. Katrina exposed the Achilles heal of this country. The truth is we can't really take care of our own people, yet we are all over this earth pushing democracy on other countries.

Let's try and perfect democracy here before we start imposing it with troops and tanks elsewhere. Deal?

Yes, of course, she and every one else has the right to change their minds. She now denies she was comforted. Instead of saying she thinks the war is wrong and American shouldn't be there she calls the President horrific things. She has dishonored her son's actions and wishes. Her family doesn't support her. There is no ration to her actions or words.
