Perhaps, Bill Weld will have better luck in New York. The Ironic part is he was billed as a real up and comer in the National Republican party in the 90's until he went after the Senate seat(which he should have known was political suicide in Massachusetts) and Jesse Helms blocked his nomination. Perhaps he may styill be able to make the national scene at some point.
Not in my life time and in the lifetime of my Parents! There have been republican elected representives but no US senators. Romney tried a run at the US senate against Ted Kennedy and lost!
Then you must be very, very young. Ed Brooke served from 1967 to 1979. As a matter of fact, MA has had more Repbulican senators than Democratic ones, two to one. Granted Brooke's term is not recent hisotry, but surely in your parent's lifetime unless, as I said, you're very, very young.
I'm originally from Texas. Sam Houston was governor of two states -- Texas and TN -- and a US senator. Maybe Gov. Weld will have the same kind of luck. Of course, politics have changed a bit since Texas became a state.
I had asked my parents in the past that question and got a NO. NO republicans..of course that's what I get for listening to my parents. As for me I was all of about 4 when Mr. Brooke ended his senate career.
