Not the kind of behavior one would expect from a lieutenant colonel. I'm just guessing, but I'm thinking - career over.

I guess another solider who is tired of Bush and Cheney's lies. Unfortunatley, like most criminals, he focused his rage on the wrong people.

Of course his career is over - but I think he probably already knows this and does not care.

And acted-out in a most unacceptable and illegal manner... giving -- at least in the eyes of the thread-starter -- Democrats/liberals a bad name... or so, I'm sure it is the hope of the thread-starter will happen. Of course if he wants to play that game, I'm sure that Mr. Engineer and Abner and I (and others) will be only too happy to list a raft of equally-illegal (and, in some cases, similarly childish) behavior by not only plain ol' Republican/right-wing average Joes, but a number of high-ranking Republicans and administration officials as well. So we probably shouldn't, any of us, go there, should we.

Nice try, Charles. And not surprising.

    Gregg,

    :D :D :D :D :D

Actually I was having a fun jab at Rich Douglas. He is a retired Air Force officer who shares Lt. Colonel Fecteau's opinion of the President. I must say, I have no doubt that Dr. Douglas would not resort to vandalism to express his opinion.

Other than the article, I know nothing about Lt. Colonel Fecteau, but it's a sad story any way you look at it. Here's a guy who undoubtedly served under President H. W. Bush and maybe even President Reagan as well as President Clinton and our current president. I have to assume that he used to be viewed as a good officer. They just don't give those silver oak leaves away. Now he's ending his career as a petty criminal. Lt. Colonel Fecteau should have requested to resign his commission if he is so adamantly against the policies of the current administration. That would have been an honorable protest.

I'm surprised that more cars aren't vandalized over bumper stickers. "Bush 04" or "Kerry 04" is one thing, those are perfectly harmless, but some bumper stickers are downright obnoxious and disturbing and leave one pondering what sort of tortured soul would actually think it's a good idea to affix such a sentiment to his or her car.

Generally, I loathe bumper stickers--even the ones with which I agree. But I've never vandalized a car over it.

One time I was idling my car in a parking lot reading a host of bumper stickers on the back of a car that had me aghast--why that nasty, hateful, irreligious lefty! As I sat there, the owner, a punked-out young lady, walked by and over to her car door--it was her car, and I was caught! She just gave me a big smile and laughed, and I thought to myself, "Ah, she isn't so bad". Just a person with whom I disagree on everything, but still a person.

I used to know this guy, and to me the only thing surprising is he was willing to throw his career away when he was close to retirement eligibility.

Dude is/was kinda out there...I'm surprised he made O-5 from my experience. To say he's not exactly normal would be a slight understatement...the action itself doesn't surprise me, only the timing.

    I'll leave it at that.

Yet another "compassionate" and "tolerant" Democrat.

  10. Update and reality check for Bruce....

We are neither "compassionate" nor "tolerant", but we are most certainly right..... and not afraid to fight for it.

That being said, the dumass vandalizing cars gets what he deserves, even if I agree with his primary rationale....

You are assuming that he is a Democrat. Do you really know that for a fact or are you just guessing? Perhaps he is merely a pissed off punk who just happens to be a Lt Col. (proving that anyone, no matter what their position is, can be an asshole criminal)

He could always try to resign in lieu of court martial, but I don't think his CO, or the Air Force would accept his resignation.

Also, on the subject of vandalizing Bush/Kerry bumper stickers, I used to live in Northern VA, which is becoming very mixed (while still overly liberal). I was at the slug lot one morning in Woodbridge, and there was a Bush 04 group handing out hot coffee and bagels. But they asked you if who you were voting for, and if you said kerry, they wouldn't not only serve you, but they were screaming at people why they shouldn't vote for Kerry. These individuals turned out to be extremists, citing the SVVFT wing, and made everyone standing in line very uncomfortable. Later in the week, people with Kerry stickers found their cars vandalized.

Regardless of your political convictions, I don't think that it is ever appropriate to destroy someone else's property.

You mean that destroying cars with politically incorrect bumper stickers (or even politically incorrect vehicles, like big beastly SUVs) does not constitute Constitutionally protected free speech under the First Amendment?

Isn't it interesting that a CAR can be politically incorrect?! My own Jeep refuses to tell me its political affiliations BUT I have my suspicions! :D

You do remember that physics doctoral student who vandalized SUVs, presumably because they are big gas-guzzling, environmentally insensitive pieces of you-know-what?
