A recent Japanese edition of Newsweek depicted the American flag in a trash can while the cover for the U.S. edition depicted popular movie stars. Incredible.

You are right; using up valuable cover space to depict movie stars when there's hard news to report about the loss of American influence in the world is a shocking failure of the magazine to live up to its responsibilities as part of our "free" press.

You have to admit that Newsweek knows its audience. The Japanese are going to be attracted to an anti-American theme while Americans would rather see movie stars.

Which begs the question of which cover is more insulting?

While in a waiting room I read the issue with the infamous Koran stuff. Actually, I never got to the Koran stuff, but found the rest of the magazine so pro-left, it was amazing something like this would be considered mainstream.

But it also begs the question: why can't democrats win elections if they have so much support from the media?

    What she said!

Ummm, ............. maybe, just maybe, because:

    (i) people vote, not the mass media?

(ii) most people vote with their hearts while most members of the media, maybe, vote with their minds?

(iii) most members of the US media have probably seen, but do not believe, in the actual existence of the post-November 2004 US elections map showing the so-called red and blue states with the title: "The United States of Canada and Jesusland."?

(iv) the vast left-wing conspiracy is/was trounced by the vast right-wing conspiracy?

    (v) democrats (and the media) have not yet mastered the nuances of using (or threatening to use and re-use) the Supreme Court to favor a sitting Republican President by stopping recounts of controversial elections?

(vi) democrats continue to search for the ephemeral truth and justice while Republicans and President Bush continue to search for WMDs in Iraq?

    ;)

    Thanks.
