  2. That debate over whether one does, or does not, believe in ancient myths that have more relevance in a world of superstition, magic, and trials by fire is still going on in the early 21st century is really more of the issue here, and certainly the issue of academic interest.

Both sides are "wrong" - for the name calling. But one side is also frustrated because of the power that mythology is gaining over science and reason. For my part, although I respect faith and religion, I will go with science and reason and hope that the name calling can cease.

I guess some people need a crutch to feel comfortable with their decisions - unfortunately many do not realize that their "crutch" (if taken literally, word for word) calls for stoning of adulterers, pork eaters, and those who would engage in some forms of scientific inquiry. Of course the old argument comes forth - "but Jesus freed us from the Law!" To which the old reply comes forth - "which laws? All of them? Some of them? None of them?"

So it is OK to eat pork, but not OK to have premarital sex? It is OK to work on Sunday, but not to allow homosexuals in the congregation?

Well, I think that, if the Democrats ever hope to have any chance of regaining political power in this country, they need to reposition themselves. For far too long the liars and hypocrites on the radical religious right of the Republican Party have gotten away with painting the Democratic Party as a bunch of godless communists. You don't need some incredibly over-priced beltway bandit political consultant to tell you that the Good Book, both in the Old Testament and in the New Testament, bespeaks to the issue of abusing and oppressing the widows and the orphans and the poor (something that Republicans obviously don't give a rip about). So, if the Democrats would put forth a minister who has the guts to speak out about oppression issues, they could retake the White House.
Personally, if there is any justice in the world, the anal-retentives on the radical Republican religious right will find that YHWH has his own ideas about who will get to press the eject button on Judgement Day.

    Hi Carl,

Can you name one congregation in America that will not allow homosexuals in the congregation?

    Thanks! :)

    Carl:

May G-d bless you and may your eyes be opened to see that He is not a dusty and irrelevent myth.

No irony intended. G-d bless you.
