Yesterday as I was zooming down I-95 on the way home from work listening to Hannity, I heard Newt Gingrich would be signing his new book today, Winning the Future: A 21st Century Contract with America, at an area Sam’s Club.

I bought the book and had a short chat (about twenty seconds) with Speaker Gingrich. I asked if he was running for president. He said he has not yet decided.

The first Contract with America accomplished quite a bit. I wonder if the new one can gain the same traction. The 21st Century Contract with America is available at Newt.org.

A beautiful plan that will not even activate a single brain cell among liberals who will frustrate it at evey turn.

Do you clowns ever stop? Newt was an unethical SOB who was thrown out of Congress like the clown he was. Just wait a few months and your equally unethical other leader Delay will join him.

The thing that "Contract with America" accomplished was to screw the average American.

Sly Stallone has a better chance at the Presidency than Newt - and he knows it as well.

OOH! OOH! Wasn't Speaker Newt messing around with his own staff person whilst persecuting President Clinton over Monica? Oh, yeah, and didn't he serve his wife with divorce papers while she was in the hospital with cancer??

BOY, what a moral, family values kinda guy!

Oh, yeah, how are we gonna offer science education second to none while requiring "intellegent design" to be taught as an alternative to evolution?

Gimme a break. This guy is about two thirds as bad as Tom DeLay.

Newt's greatest accomplishment was to unseat Ft. Worthless Jim Wright -- the most corrupt politician in modern times. The guy was nothing but a comatose slosh that sold our country out at every turn. The last time I saw Wright was on Larry King. He was so crocked that I thought he would fall into the microphone. Now, even CNN (the Clinton News Network) has apparently written him off. Then too, maybe he's dead. I don't know. Remember the House post office scandal? You guys conveniently forget how rotten to the core the Congress was until our boys kicked ass in '94. Newt's predecessor was Jim Michaels, a RINO (Republican in Name Only) who was in cahoots with the Dems. Any you guys have the audacity to talk about NEWT as corrupt?! ROFLMAO.

I forget now. What was the outrage that caused the people to rise up and invite Speaker Newt to leave, not only the Speakership, but the House altogether?

Don't forget how he managed to avoid the draft during the Vietnam War due to multiple educational deferments but nevertheless remained a true believer in American military assistance to South Vietnam, just not his. That is the height of hypocrisy and hubris and pretty much set the tone for the rest of his professional career. (Advocating one thing publicly and yet falling far short or doing the opposite in his personal life.) It is a shame because he could have been a very effective advocate for the conservative viewpoint in American politics. Instead he is, by and large, seen as an arrogant, pontificating talking head who regularly offers his "political analysis" (thinly-veiled commentary) to that obsequious sycophant Sean Hannity on Hannity & Colmes .

Ya' know, whenever the left starts railing on Republican leaders for things like morality lapses, hypocrisy, unethical behavior, arrogance, etc., I have only one response....TED KENNEDY.

I'm not a big Newt guy--he seems a little smarmy--but I fail to see how the Contract "screwed" the average guy.

    Re: Newt Gingrich

You have a good point but not on Newt. The Newtmeister is at the far right edge of the American political spectrum but still puts forth legitimate political views. Sean Hannity is another story altogether.

Hannity is notorious for his gross oversimplifications, distortions and prevarications (lies). http://www.americanprogress.org/site/pp.asp?c=biJRJ8OVF&b=91585

This charlatan, a modern day snake oil salesman, complete with his phony jingoistic compliment of "You're a great American" to fellow right-wingers, plays on the latent nationalistic sentiment of his viewers and listeners with simple solutions to the issues of the day. Details like budget realities never get in the way of this telegenic, well-dressed phony as he seamlessly moves from issues like the "war on terror" (he supports it but is opposed to tax increases on the wealthy to pay for it, something that most people would consider fair since the wealthy aren't sending their kids to serve in the military) to his opposition to abortion (though he opposes the concept of government subsidies for mothers who do choose to have the children) and euthanasia (of course St. Sean also decries Medicaid).

Hannity's delusions have even extended as far as the death of Pope John Paul II. He champions himself as a devout follower of the late Pontiff's but again conveniently avoids the messiness of reconciling their opposing views on significant moral issues such as capital punishment and the war in Iraq.

My favorite Hannity inconsistency has always been his advocacy of mandatory minimum jail sentences for drug offenders. When his idol Rush Limbaugh became entangled in a prescription drug in 2004, Hannity quietly dropped the mandatory incarceration for drug offenders plank from his "Hannitization Tour" platform. What an intellectually dishonest fake, phony and fraud Hannity has truly shown himself to be.

    Hannity & Colmes

Wild Bill -- I sense a real hostility on your part towards Sean Hannity. I don't care for him but he is basically just another talking head reading off a teleprompter. I couldn't justify wasting my time and energy trying to document his lies and distortions.

BTW, it is difficult to take posts seriously written by someone who calls himself Wild Bill. Unless you are a card carrying member of the professional rodeo tour or a high school sophmore you should consider a new logon ID.

Even though I firmly believe the Republicans were responsible for the economic good times under President Clinton and, while think the Contract with America accomplished much, I would vote Libertarian if Newt Gingrich were the GOP nominee!

He's a hypocrite and a phony. If one is going to parade morals and ethics then one needs to display them in one's personal and political life.

So far, of all the GOP candidates who have been mentioned for '08, Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney meets my morals and ethics criteria.

As a Republican I am distressed Newt is getting so much attention and even more distressed DeLay is allowed to slide by. Wrong is wrong, whether it's Jim Wright or Tom DeLay.

    Re: Newt

Imbecile isn't correct here, the guy may be two-faced or hypocritical or whatever, but he certainly isn't stupid!

Similarly, I'm certain all Reps are salivating at the possibility of the Dems propping Ms Clinton up for nomination. How about that choice? Newt v. Hillary: a real Hobbes choice; the all time "hold your nose and vote" election. A third party candidate a la Jessie Ventura could win such a race.

    Yep.

Newt earned his Ph.D. in History in 1971 from Tulane University. He also has an MA from Tulane and a BA from Emory. Prior to his running for congress, he was a university professor.

Newt's dissertation was entitled: 'Belgian Education Policy in the Congo, 1945-1960'.

    Re: Re: Newt

I am not so sure. Ventura's term as governor was not so good. He more than likely would not have won reelection.

There is also a tendency to flirt with a third party in a presidential race until about six weeks before the voting.

In 1980, John Anderson was running even with Reagan and Carter in a few national polls. In 1992, Ross Perot was running even with Bush and Clinton in a few national polls.

When it comes right down to the wire, Americans just don't want to take the chance. Even the popular Teddy Roosevelt couldn't win on a third party ticket.

Within the past few years Gingrich has co-authored several books (one, a novel) about the Civil War.

I think the last one was a national bestseller about Grant.

Gotta agree with you on this one Wild Bill. I find both Hannity and Limbaugh to be pathetic bamboozlers who suffer from delusions of grandeur.

I like your moniker, Wild Bill! One of my good friends is also known as "Wild Bill". He is one of the best contract negotiators around.

    Take care Wild Bill!

    Abner :)
