After 24 semesters of teaching history at the University of Colorado, Phil Mitchell, PhD. finds his contract will go unrenewed.

His crime? A+ feedback from students, and one prestigious SOAR best teacher award in 1998 - but he's a conservative evangelical christian.

His further failings? He was called a "racist" by his "diversity" department head for quoting economist Thomas Sowell's writings in a discussion on affirmative action. For this he was removed from the department.

"Then, Mitchell had the audacity to use a book on liberal Protestantism in the late 19th century. So repulsed by the word 'god' was one student, she complained, and the department chair fired him without a meeting, he said."

"People say liberals run the university. I wish they did," Mitchell says. "Most liberals understand the need for intellectual diversity. It's the radical left that kills you."

Given the entrenched political correctness at CU, as exemplified by Ward Churchill, "Mitchell wondered how he lasted this long. 'I've had enough. I am clearly being closed out for political or religious reasons,' Mitchell says. 'I am one of the top-rated professors in the history of the department.'

Writes Denver Post columnist David Harsanyi (& Mar 2005): "'People say liberals run the university. I wish they did,' Mitchell says. 'Most liberals understand the need for intellectual diversity. It's the radical left that kills you.'

"So Churchill may play the part, but Mitchell is the true dissenter at CU.

"Once, president Hoffman promised increased intellectual diversity at CU - not a purge of conservatives. Another promise broken."

There may be a multi-million dollar buyout of Churchill to further fund his advocay of terrorism against Americans, but not for the gentle Dr. Mitchell.
