  2. Though I by no means support Ward Churchill, I find it equally repugnant that heads are rolling in academia for permitting the fullest extent of academic freedom in an institution.

So how far does "the fullest extent" go?

    Carl~

Could Churchill say "Non-white men must go and rape CU coeds as retribution for dispossessing and 'raping' my indian people!" Churchill says the same regarding the state - and yet state law prohibits him from doing so!

As is happens, there is case law showing limits on the kinds of workplace speech allowed. The state law has been upheld in federal court, and Surpreme Court has held that the Bill of Rights is not a suicide compact.

Yet terrorism and sanctioning political suicide is what Churchill is all about!

Tell you what, Carl: you love his unrestricted "free" speech - then you pay my Colorado taxes! I dissent! I want out!! Or I'll rebel!!!

Isn't speech that's paid paid speech and not free speech?

  6. Seen the Chronicle lately??

Actually, the Chronicle of Higher Education has a very non-partisan/non-inflammatory "fluff" article about Ward Churchill's recent visit to Hawaii in one of their latest editions.

Read it, and see that there maybe, just maybe, are two sides to this whole witch-hunt against W C, and similar outspoken (liberal, even anarchist) academics.

Tolerance for extreme political views, and the strength to not allow them to penetrate our nation's inherent goodness, is what this country is all about. Putting up barriers is a sign of fear, and gives great power and credence to extremist viewpoints that otherwise would not be there....

Plus, I kind of like things stirred up a bit from the McNews that we get every night on TV, don't you? Isn't it refreshing to hear an alternate viewpoint, even one that is way out there like Churchill's? Not much worse than Coulter's advocating charges of treason against all liberals in my opinion.....
