  2. Yes, that devious ex-president Carter...

    <begin satire>
    Oh what trickery and wiles won't he stoop to! The evil former president has certainly been up to no good throughout these years with his involvement in Habitat for Humanity, compassion for the poor and downtrodden, and his eminently Christian outlook on life. The sooner we get this scum exposed and in jail where he belongs the better!

    Yes, Jimmy Carter, first cousin of Satan himself. How long must we wait before his wicked influence on American foreign policy is brought to an end? The sooner the better, so that Bush can move forward with his quest to bring corporate America more profits from foreign domination of resource rich nations.

    Let's all join in now in condemning Jimmy Carter!

    <end satire>

    (Good Christ Charles, what nonsense you post!!)

    I seriously doubt President Carter did anything wrong. While I have been terribly disappointed in some of the things he has said in the past several years, I think if anything, he has a tendency to be gullible and naive.

    Carter has better ethics and morals than this article portrays and I generally like WorldNetDaily.

  5. Jimmy, thanks for being the voice of conservative reason here. And as to his gullibility, who can ever forget the infamous "Panama Canal giveaway"? That being said, Carter is the best EX president we've ever had....

    Carl,

    Is it necessary to take such a patronizing tone?

    I often do not agree with items posted by others on this forum. However, when I chose to address a disagreement, I will focus on the issue.

    Now to the story. Do you believe it to be untrue? Why is it nonsense?

  7. Sorry Charles... I got carried away in my initial outrage. YES I believe the story to be untrue. The reason why I believe it to be untrue is that, like a lot of Christian conservatives on this board, I also have "faith". Except my faith is in the goodness of the man Jimmy Carter who doesn't have a bone in his body that would sell this country down the river in any "food for oil" scandal. Maybe he's naiive and gullible, but he's a good man for sure.

    Certainly a much better man than the puffery of George W., who talks up his "faith" yet his party and corporate backers rob from the global disenfranchised masses in order to ensure that these same buddies can live the lives of royalty on the backs of the downtrodden....

    God knows what the truth is here, and it ain't that Carter is "bad" and Bush is "good". Quite the opposite.

    Maybe Ghandi is involved too

    Tell you what, if Jimmy Carter knowingly committed a crime which hurts humanity in any way, I will eat my arm. That's right folks, my arm.
    I have no worries.

    HOW much for a cup of Kofi???

    I loathe Carter but I doubt the link. The last great Southern moralizer, the infamous W------ W----- (yimach shemo), was the original, Carter a mere epigone. As Democrats go, I much prefer Southern immoralists like Clinton to idealistic zealots bringing suffering in their wake.

    And, no, I am not going to watch the coronation. Regardless of party, the thing is an atrocity in a republic. The president ought to be sworn in at the conclusion of the meeting of the electoral college by its presiding official.

    Henry Louis Mencken, would God that thou wert living at this hour!

    Thanks Carl, although I consider myself a moderate and I still believe Carter did the right thing with the Panama Canal.

    To Uncle Janko: I agree. The inaugurations have gotten too ornate and too expensive.

    I concur. The only thing missing yesterday was the placing of a crown on Presiden't Bush's head.

    Love him or hate him, that was a bit much.

    Does anyone remember Operation Desert Fox? It preempted President Clinton's impeachment hearings. I was onboard USS ENTERPRISE at the time. This was President Carter's press release:

    I second that...even if he was not the strongest while in office.

    Seems he has gotten more accomplished now that he is no longer dealing with the resistance of the Republicans. I doubt I'll see a more principled man in that office in my lifetime. Sad.

    I believe President's Carter's ineffectiveness was more due to how he transitioned into office. He placed many outsiders in key posts. Insiders often have contacts and knowledge that allows them to hit the streets running. Democrat AND Republican insiders viewed this break as a threat. Agree or disagree with his politics Carter has over and over again proven his ethics, values, and morals.

    I'd have to disagree. Carter was ineffective because he was/is incompetent.

    Contacts don't make illegal activity

    Politicians come into contact with a lot of people, not all of them honorable. This is, I believe, one of those cases. Carter is very gullible and trusting of others. For proof of that look at his negotiations with North Korea. However, to say he was guilty of culpable involvment in the oil for food scandal would be a bit of a stretch at this point.

    Carter was not a good president for several reasons. 1st because he appointed the wrong people, 2nd he tried to micro-manage them and running the US government is too much for one man to do and 3rd because of the plain bad luck of being president when the oil crisis (?) and hostage crisis hit. He aged more in 4 years than most presidents do in 8 and it was probably a good thing for his health he got out when he did.

    I find it odd that George Bush is hammered by many for his religious beliefs but JC was at least as religious as GW and he never received the same criticism of it as GW does.

    Anybody watch the History Channel specials on the presidents this past weekend? Very interesting.

    Carter didn't take heat for his religious beliefs because he didn't incorporate them as part of his foreign policy. Bush does. Big difference.
