President Bush says that, after the elections, if the government of Iraq asks us to leave, we'll leave. Just like that.

I wonder. Oil interests and profit margins aside, can we really AFFORD an independant and potentially hostile Iraq given this assessment? Or will we be compelled to act like the British Empire and give "advice" that is meant to be taken?

There's no sign whatever that the civil war in Iraq is abating. Although all but four (or so) provinces will be able to participate in the election, those four provinces contain about half the population! What kind of democratic legitimacy will the new government have?

    From the article,

How perfect! Terrorists breeding and training in the midst of American firepower! The terrorists are now generally localized in one area. Brilliant move by our President to fight them on their turf, not ours!

Yeah, all those Iraqi attacks on US soil were terrible.

Either you didn't read the article or you failed to comprehend it.

The terrorists are coming from all over the world. Iraq has replaced Afghanistan as a terrorist breeding ground. America was attacked by terrorists from and training in Afghanistan. Therefore, members of these groups have left Afghanistan and gone into Iraq.

    1)Iraq didn't attack us
    2) Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11
    2) Iraq had no WMD
    3) "They" planned the attack prior to 9/11:
    http://newamericancentury.org/iraqclintonletter.htm
4)Iraq is defending its sovereignty against an occupying power, they aren't "turrorists". See:Revolutionary War.
    5) Other Muslims who otherwise wouldn't have given a crap are going in to help them. They are being trained. They are new recruits we are creating.
    6) Al-Queda is still located all over the world and still plotting against us. This doesn't affect that at all. Except to strenthen their resolve.
    7) This is very bad news for our troops. Not brilliant.

  8. I love lists....

Especially ones that are 110% correct. Good job Khan.....

  9. Jimmy? Smell the roses!

Jimmy? If you don't think this witches brew is going to come boiling over the cauldron into the US and our proxies worldwide in a very short time you are either more naiive than I thought, or just plain dumb!

I prefer to think of you as the former, rather than the latter....

Fighting them on their turf. Please!

More like training them on their turf by giving them plenty of fat happy targets that are fighting back under strict rules of engagement/non-engagement.

If we took them on like the Soviets would have, or worse yet the Nazis of WWII fame, there wouldn't be a fly left alive in that country at this point....

But instead we fight our wars like the kind good-hearted people we are - and we will LOSE LOSE LOSE against these religion fueled madmen....

Food for thought for the weekend!

    Plans to attack

I realize that most of you on this board have spent zero days in any military organization so maybe your ignorance can be excused, but here is a little tidbit of info you really should know. The military has lots of Colonels (you know, the guys who do the actual planning) that spend time in schools, staffs etc. wargaming missions that are appearing on the horizon. In 1994, before I left Europe, my last MAPEX gamed a possible intervention into Kosovo. When did we go? Not until 1998. So, WITHOUT A DOUBT, there were plans as early as the end of the first Gulf War into how to invade Iraq. That is what leaders do, plan ahead....

    Explain that to me...?

Four provinces contain HALF!?! Half the population? No. Les than 20%, And according to a poll in the Wash Post Friday, some 80% (according to Andrew Sullivan on MSNBC) of those in the Sunni triangle want to vote (even if they can't or don't).

And the fact that ex-Baathists and Sunni fanatics fear an election constitutes a "civil war?" Please explain that to me.

Can a "war" without fronts and still hidden away really qualify as a "civil war?"

Wednesday, six car bombing attempts failed, with none of the bombers able to reach their intended targets. One bomber was captured, the other five detonated where they were when they realized they could not get through the security. Some two dozen Iraqis were killed as a result. Even kidnapping has also lost its effectiveness as a terror weapon.

All of this only makes the Sunni Arab terrorists more unpopular. Are you - nosborne - willing to bet that the "status quo" threat you argue for will remain such though this years three successive elections?

Just that 9/11's mastermind, Bin Laden, mentioned (a) the deaths of one million Iraqi's under UN sponsored economic santions of that country, and (b) that Infidel US troops occupied the "Holy lands" of Saudi Arabia in his 1998 fatwa.

So, of course "Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11!"

Why can't Bush's critics simply admit reality: the war in Iraq was unfinished business. And because of the influence of the Oil for Food program, Saddam's scheming, and the UN's corruption, would not have been resolved without going to war anyway?

Abner, I do not like Rush Limbaugh at all. I do not listen to him. But you are not telling the truth when you try to link Limbaugh to "Christian Identity," a neo-Nazi spinoff.

I am old enough to remember the vileness of McCarthyism, when anybody to the left of Karl Mundt got labeled a Communist. You represent the sort of degenerate leftist who labels anyone to the right of Senator Clinton a Nazi. Do you know a damn thing about Christian Identity, or real Nazis?

You should be ashamed of yourself, Sensei. What a self-inflicted loss of face!

    Rush Limbaugh

The beauty of this country is I do not have to like people like Rush Limbaugh, and I have a right to say so. Furthermore, you have some nerve to imply I am labeling people, while you just labeled me "degenerate leftist". Ok, if you want to label people, you sound like a Newt Gingrich era Right Wing Conservative Degenerate.

    Best wishes to you,

    Sensei Abner I.

    Re: Explain that to me...?

Here's the Wash Post poll - buried on p. 13 by our "Angels" in the MSM:

"Most Iraqis Remain Committed to Elections, Poll Finds Despite Insurgent Threats and Lack of Democratic Tradition, 80 Percent Say They Are Likely to Vote
    Washington Post Foreign Service
    Friday, January 21, 2005; Page A13

"BAGHDAD, Jan. 20 -- An overwhelming majority of Iraqis continue to say they intend to vote on Jan. 30 even as insurgents press attacks aimed at rendering the elections a failure, according to a new public opinion survey.

"The poll, conducted in late December and early January for the International Republican Institute, found 80 percent of respondents saying they were likely to vote, a rate that has held roughly steady for months.

"Western specialists involved with election preparations said they were struck by the determination and resilience of ordinary Iraqis as they anticipate their country's first free election in half a century."
