I'm at some conference this week where the event I'm at in the hotel is shared with the "Crimebusters of Florida". Lots of cops around, kind of like Reno911 with alligators and palm trees.... Anyway, these guys are all having a lot of fun, getting drunk, starting up their sirens in the parking lot, etc... Good bunch of good ol' boys - smoking cigars with me in the hotel lounge/bar, etc. After a few drinks, the topics turn more personal - like politics. Of course they are pretty much all Bush supporters. I kind of stay silent and just "go along", making very non-committal commentary.... After all, these guys are big, drunk, southern, and have guns! Anyway, to my point here, this one big cop says "Did y'all know that when the Redskins play at home, which they are doin' on Monday night in DC, if they win the game just before the election then the incumbent president is re-elected, and if they lose the challenger gets elected?" Well, of course few of us knew this important predictor of the electoral process and were amazed to learn that for the last 16 elections, this "bellwether" has been correct. So, instead of tuning into the polls on Tuesday night for the results, just watch the 'Skins game on Monday and you'll know who won.....
What Carl means is that Sunday before the election, whenever the Redskins played....thier winning or losing determined the outcome. I am a faithful Cowboy fan, so you all know I am pulling for whomever they play to beat them. The Redskins-Cowboys rivalary is big...very big. That is why in the small back of my mind, I want them to do well, so it is sweeter when we beat them..
Doh! I always make a fool out of myself when I start talking about sports, of which I know virtually nothing - other than fencing, karate, and golf.... and paintball. LOL
Carl, I was the one that was wrong, not you. I thought you meant that the incumbent won after a Monday night game, when the results are according to the prior game (Sunday OR Monday). Double doh!
