I do not like Kerry because I have been watching him for months, but I have to call it like it is. Kerry kicked his rearend tonight, and Bush looked bad.

I don't like the Commander in Chimp that we have in office now, but the debate was so sanitized, I have to call it a draw. I can tell that the CIC spent a great deal of time in preparation for this.

The President talked a lot like a CEO. Unfortunatley, a President is not a CEO, nor can he act like one. I did agree with Senator Munster (Kerry - lol) that just because you remain consistant (not exactly his words) doesn't mean you are not consistantly wrong.

Kerry wzs strong and obviously the better debater tonight. Yet, Bush countered effectively many of Kerry's statements on Iraq, North Korea, and Kerry's changes of mind even in this debate.

Kerry contradicted himself several times regarding Iraq and the dangers of Saddam Hussein.

Bottome line, Kerry win the debate, Bush wins on substance.

    I agree with plcscott.

Kerry appeared more organized and stronger than Bush. Bush seemed annoyed and hunched over.

I think Kerry did much better than Bush, but he did not provide the knock out punch he needed. Kerry's camp should get energized. The next debate should be interesting.

  7. I'm curious to see how Bush will prepare for the Town Hall-style debate next week.

I felt that despite obviously comprehensive preparation, Bush's stumbling and long pauses showed that he probably can't extemporize in a more dynamic setting.

I'd also like to know where all of these "nukular" weapons are...

    Cheers,
    Mark

I think you will see a different Bush in the next two debates. Remember, Kerry did nothing all day. He was rested and energized.

Bush spent the day touring Florida and comforting the victims of the hurricane devastation.

I still think Bush won on substance. He reminded Kerry the Democrats were in office when the N. Korean agreement was signed. Kerry attempted to blame Bush for the agreement.

Bush kept reminding the voters how Kerry has consistently changed his mind.

Bush "dogged" Kerry when Kerry said he would use preemptive strikes if the decision to do so would pass the "global test." Yea, this is what we want. We want to get world approval to protect our national interests.

Bush was passionate about his views, his consistent views.

I said earlier I thought Kerry won the debate and Bush won on substance. I should have said Kerry won on style.

Both of them have been preparing for weeks. Today was irrelevant. Bush looked flustered, testy, and tired. Kerry had much better command over the facts and seemed strong. Bush, at times, seemed as if he was pleading with the American people: "It's hard work..."

I have to admit that Kerry has left me fairly unenthusiastic up until now. I was impressed tonight. Clear victory for Kerry IMO.

Kerry was more eloquent said nothing. Bush still has communication issues but had the better message and comes off as a "real" guy who put a day's work in before showing up. Nothing we didn't know before going in. I think this one comes out as a wash for both, as it was Bush's to win. Nothing new to change any undecideds. All snipets from canned speeches already delivered.

  11. "Side by each"

In the part of Wisconsin I originally came from, some of the locals use the phrase "side by each" in place of "side by side".

Well, in seeing Kerry and Bush "side by each", so to speak, the choice is clear.

Vote for an inarticulate, smarmy, smug, arrogant idiot?

    Or...

    Vote for a master debater....

    The choice is yours!

I think Bush did better in the debate. Bush was calmed and not as animated as Kerry. Bush took a positive approach to everything or most things.

Kerry seemed high strung and edgy. He was over animated and almost theatrical. He did not answer several questions very well and after saying he would get out Iraq quicker, he only said he would add two Army divisions; this is not a plan.

Overall, Bush was positive and optimistic, and Kerry was negative and defensive.

It's harder to debate when you're the challenger. You have to criticize the mistakes the other guy has made. Kerry did it well and won the debate IMO. Bush was so defensive on Iraq that it seems like it might have finally dawned on him that it was a mistake. His only point was that you can't admit it when you're Commander in Chief.

While Kerry didn't mess up as bad as I thought he would, he was his usual unlikable, pompous self. Bush definitely won on substance and stuck to the facts. Even Joe Lockhart was caught on a C-Span camera telling Mike McCurry that it was "a draw."

I am not a Kerry fan but he was the better debater last night. That said, he said worse than nothing. Quite frankly, Kerry attempted to play hard ball with the President several times but simply got his facts wrong, and Bush caught him on it. Kerry attacked the sanctions on Iran by accusing the President of acting alone against Iran...that this was another example of how the President alienates the rest of the world. Bush responded by reminding Kerry that the sactions against Iran were in place PRIOR to the current administration. The same exact thing happened on North Korea. Kerry also accused Bush of reducing the budget for the security of Russian nukes....Bush was quick to remind him that under the current administration, spending for this purpose has increased by 35%.

Kerry was the better, more eloquent speaker. Kerry appeared more comfortable and exact, but frequently butchered the facts. Bush stumbled and fumbled around with his words, as he always does, but was much more aware of the facts on every important issue.

How can you be both the "better debater" and be "worse than nothing"? The main factor in deciding the debate should be the substance of the arguments. You have said Kerry had none. So how could he be the better debater?

    Re: "Side by each"

    Better yet:
The choice is vote for a strong, resolute, and moral leader. Or…..
Vote for an elitist, morally deficient, baby murder supporting, war criminal wuss.

IIRC, Heinz-Kerry said that he supported our troops, and that warriors should not be confused with the war. Yet, he voted against necessary military funding. Does this fella really care about our troops? I think not. If he had his way, the troops would be harmed more than anyone else.

And did Kerry actually say Iran should be allowed to use nuclear fuel rods for energy purposes? Is he nuts?! Yeah, Iran is real trustworthy, and they sure need the energy. Not enough oil? That’s it!

You’re right, Carl, the choice is mine, and I choose George W. Bush. But hey, your girly man’s spray tan sure looked fabaluss. Orange looks good on him. I bet his pedicure looks great too!

One last thing: According to a Sept 21 Badger Poll (7day) the latest Wisconsin "side by each" shows Bush leading Kerry 53% to 38% (see electoral-vote.com). You might just be out of touch with your own people, Carl. Elite academic types usually are.

While the polls show Kerry won, they also show most agreed more with Bush than with Kerry.

Calling Bush an idiot is very disrespectful not only to the Commander-in-Chief but also to the office of the Presidency.

It is comments like yours that will help put Bush back in office because, whether you like it or not, you are a spokesperson for Kerry and your comments reflect badly on free, open, respectful, and civil debate.

To those who criticised both Kerry and Bush, here is the way to engage in real, civil, respectful commentary regarding each man's performance:

Bush said he killed or arrested 75% of the terrorists. That was silly.

Do you think Osama is sitting there and not recruiting. I would like to know how did he arrive at that number (75%).

Now Saddam is in prison, but where is the WMD and I want to see peace in Iraq.
