Well, who are you voting for - Howard or Latham, or maybe the Greens? Silence......oppppssss...sorry; this seems to be only a forum for the US, not the forthcoming Australian elections. Did anyone on this forum (except George Brown - I hope) know that America's best budy, Australia, is having an election in a few weeks times? For our American friends, Howard loves the US, Latham says he doesn't, and the Greens hate everyone!

I'll stay Conservative and be careful NOT to give preferences to the Greens - the Nazis of 2004. Unfortunately we live in an electorate where 70% are academics and/or have 2 degrees and they vote Labour :-(
Perceptive comment, Peter--trace the ideological antecedents of the original German Greens to the Wandervoegel, Thulists, neo-nordic pagans, ad inf. et ad naus., and the colour does shift from green to brown.
Sorry, I forgot that Peter French is an Australian. I am still waiting for a comment from our South Australian mate. But then again, he is a public servant, so maybe it would be better he keeps quiet; the election is too close to call. Very perceptive comments on the Greens, boys!
Evening, Peter! Long time no see. Does Latham really say he doesn't love the United States? Well, I guess I won't be voting for him, then... *pause* Oh, right. I've been kind of glancing at the Aus political situation (not closely enough to have a really informed opinion), and something tells me I'd probably be content with Howard but would vote Labour as a rule. Not fond of the global Greens movement, though, or at least not fond of what I've seen of it. Cheers,
I live in a safe seat so it is a non-issue. Nonetheless, politics is not a topic in Australia at the moment. The bombing of the Australian Embassy in Jakarta has put all the bullshit on hold. Our thoughts go out to our friends in Indonesia. Cheers, George
Yes and our Embassy in Bali is shut as from today. Some may not realise but we lost a greater percentage of our population in Bali than the US did on Sept 11, so you can imagine how people feel as to how close it will be next time around. I not 'contesting' just 'explaining as many are not aware of that fact.
G'day Tom - I am working with an Edith Cowan ex professor on a research project, and you are 'acknowledged' so keep up the good work. We have a young economics graduate who some regard as an ex thug with very colourful language in public who hasn't hesitated to break a taxi driver's arm over a fare, and a mid 60s Solicitor who is an excellent orator and stragegist ... the issue could be that the Greens get the undecided or rebel vote, and the result could go either way. I am a conservative in a labour strong seat [Deputy Party Leader] and wouldn't bother to take the trip to vote except that I'd get fined, as voting in compulsory over here.

Greens Leader Brown... Bob Brown gained notoriety here in Oz for heckling President Bush when he visited our island continent, then cheering for the President of China when he (Hu Jin Tao?) arrived a couple of days later. Mr Brown obviously prefers leaders who kill their own populace, and has been seduced by the _Great Satan_ rhetoric of the Twin Towers murderers and the Bali and Jakarta bombers.
