This from the Sierra Club newsletter:

"In the days, weeks, and months following 9/11, Bush administration officials instructed the EPA to downplay the dangers of air pollution at Ground Zero. The White House changed key language in EPA press releases to cover up or minimize the dangers to workers and residents, and the EPA repeatedly reassured the public that the air at Ground Zero was safe to breathe -- despite the known presence of high levels of dangerous substances. The Sierra Club's new report, "Air Pollution and Deception at Ground Zero: How the Bush Administration's Reckless Disregard of 9/11 Toxic Hazards Poses Long-Term Threats for New York City and the Nation," which will be released on August 18th, reveals the depth and breadth of this misinformation campaign and the consequences for the public's health."

Nice work protecting our "heroes." I guess when he said "the people who did this are gonna hear from us..." he meant they would hear a cacophony of coughing and phlegm from lung disease.

This quote came from a hardcore ultra-left organization. No real credibility there.

If Bush knew that the air was dangerous, why did he visit Ground Zero a few days after the attacks??

Sierra Club!!!!!!!!!!! Hardcore ultra- left!!! That's classic.

  5. No kidding.... They are about as "ultra-left" as the Audubon Society or the ladies aid church ice cream social...

Next thing you know, the neo-cons will be calling the John Birch Society "ultra-left".

  6. Maybe because he's not all that bright?? Or, better yet, it was a photo-op worth taking some slight health risk for...

I have to say that I'm sorry that Gulliani is part of that gang, at least at the RPNC. He's a reasonably good guy and an intelligent conservative - difficult to see him stumping for Bush, is it not?

    Bruce,

Why do you always make these conservative responses before I have a chance to do so? ;)

    A couple of obvious answers:

    1. When Bush visited, there was no clear indication of the danger. It was only confirmed after much testing.

    2. The real danger comes from long term exposure. Bush's photo-op doesn't qualify. The men and women who worked for weeks and months there are the ones at risk. Bush was there for about an hour.

As for those who claim the Sierra Club has no credibility... well, all I can say is I feel sorry for you. The Sierra Club and similar organizations look out for everyone on this planet.

Here's a thought experiment for the brilliant conservatives on this thread. If the clean-up at Ground Zero were still going on, and this report from the Sierra Club had just come to light, how many of you brave souls would volunteer to work there without full masks and other safety equipment? Would you believe Bush and the EPA, or would you believe the Sierra Club? Yeah, I thought so. Not quite worth risking your health in order to keep up bonehead arguments, is it?
