I live in New Jersey and got into Rutgers blended online programin MSW last week but my status is international ( on a visa) and that means no financial aid. I had to refuse admission because of finance as my loan would come up to $50,000 in all. $38,000 is the tuition plus books, commute in 2nd and 3rd year and daycare for my child. Feeling really upset:-(
I would like to direct your attention to this thread: http://www.degreeinfo.com/general-distance-learning-discussions/46577-online-msw-suggestions.html

You're going to have to look at non-US degrees then. Start with UNISA Unisa Online - Social Work However, before you get too deep into this research you had better have a long chat with your state licensing board because you can not simply assume that a non-US MSW will qualify you for licensure where you live (or anywhere else for that matter).
Thank you Kizmet thats very upsetting for me. I really Assumed there will be something in US that I could afford Are all masters that expensive in US?
Remember, a standard MSW is 60 semester hours, with perhaps 15 sh available in advanced standing for holding a BSW or comparable grounds. Master's degrees in many other subjects are often 36 sh, with exceptions in a band between 30 and 39 sh. Licensure-track programs in professional counseling or marriage and family therapy are similarly 48-60, and like social work have significant practicum requirements. Could you reach your goals with a master's degree in a related subject? For a 30-39 semester hour master's in a related subject, you might consider programs in human services (non-licensure), psychology (general academic studies in psychology; non-licensure), health studies/health management (not public health), education, sociology, criminology/criminal justice, human ecology, women's studies, child studies, youth development, nonprofit management, conflict resolution, international development, political science, and legal studies (not law).
Jonathan thank you! I am very sure I do not want to become a therapist so your advice is very helpful. I woukd prefer to do the cheapest possible online masters ( or part online part campus) from an accredited university in US in less time. I live in NEw Jersey but again because of the cost of school plus the cost of daycare I am not able to join a traditional program here. I feel so upset about having to refuse the MSW at Rutgers, the classes would be starting tomorrow. $40,000 was just not imaginable for me and when we met them they said they dont get any funding for social work programs
Take a look at Memorial University, in St. John's, Newfoundland (Canada). They have a mostly-online MSW that, if memory serves me, is about $5000 all in. You would have to add to that the cost of round-trip airfare to St. Johns for a 10 day on-campus residency. The program is well regarded among those in the field, and pretty rigorous, but the distance-based program is mostly unknown outside of Newfoundland. I am near certain it is accredited by CSWE (the US programmatic accreditor for social work programs.)
Thank you Chip am looking at this program it sounds interesting. Kizmet no not any MS but i have kept many options open because i do not have a gre/gmat and financial issues. I was thinking MSW, masters in management or non profit management..something along these. I am not a green card holder or citizen of US as well.
There are already lots of existing threads on MBAs, etc. You should consider going to that forum and reading a bit. Business and MBA degrees
The memorial univ at newfoundland needs a BSW for their MSW program:-( Now I am looking at non profit management or a cheaper mba
There's a big recent thread collecting graduate programs in nonprofit management here. GetEducated.com publishes lists of some of the lowest-cost US, RA, DL master's in human services, public administration, health care, and others. Starting from affordable schools and then zooming down to programs, you might look at Western New Mexico University, Fort Hays State University, Chadron State College, and Amberton University.
