My first adjunct interview is next week. Any tips?

I have my first ever job interview for an adjunct teaching position next week. I would like to get the job but as this is my first interview ever for an adjunct position I am looking at it more as an opportunity to get my feet wet in the interviewing process. Does anyone have any tips or suggestions for me? Questions I should ask? Questions I should expect them to ask? They did not say anything about a teaching demo.

I have a bachelors in Computer Science from Thomas Edison (well my conferral is in three weeks) . I am just starting my masters in computer science in a couple weeks at a state university. The school I am interviewing with is nationally accredited so they allow adjuncts to teach with a bachelors. The course in question is a programming type course which I have 15+ years experience in the private sector.

I don't have any advice for you, but I just wanted to wish you the best of luck. How exciting!

How do you handle students that do not participate
How do you keep them engaged
What are your thoughts on student retention
What would you do if a student complains about their grade but what you gave them was fair
What skills / expereince do you have that will make you a good teacher
    What is your teaching philosphy

    Ask-
Do you have the option to contact the student via phone
What additonal support does the school offer students (tutoring, library/ProQuest access, simulators)
    What is expected of me

    This is a good start

Randall covered the big ones, I think.

    Good luck!

I'm surprised they didn't mention a teaching demo. When I was at VIU, a candidate's performance in his or her teaching demo was typically more important than all other factors combined.

Steve, if it's a 1st interview, then it's probably a screening interview. Finalists would give teaching demonstrations (in my experience anyway...)

Ah, so. VIU only hires adjuncts, so they screen out candidates by phone. If they get as far as coming to campus, they'd do a teaching demo. For schools that hire faculty on less disposable terms, though, I can see how things might progress more slowly.

I have done demos for schools where I taught on campus, but never for online schools. I have had to do required training, where much of that stuff is covered, though, for online schools.

Besides the question related to your introduction, you would be asked questions on the related subjects mainly. It's required to make them understand in a way that a teacher does to a student. The process has to be simple but understandable. They will mainly look at three things.
    1. your domain knowledge.
    2. your respectability to students.
    3. Student handling capabilities.
    Best of Luck...:)
