Are there any colleges where I could teach with only a BA in Computer Science and 15+ years experience? I have a ton of IT certifications. I assume they would be non regionally accredited schools. I don't care about the pay. I would like to try to get some experience. I found one school but looking for others. Thanks
I would try the tech schools such as ITT - also Junior Colleges may take you as well....IT is probably the exception to the rule for requiring a Master's to teach at the College Level. See IT Certification Classes | Computer Training | Alexandria, VA and Extended Learning Institute :: Northern Virginia Community College as examples ... I would also not rule out extension courses for adult learners. The local schools or municipalities sponsor them. Libraries may also sponsor courses for seniors, or look in senior centers. Some homeless shelters such as SOME also conduct classes to get clients back on their feet. See SOME (So Others Might Eat). I hope that I have given you some food for thought. IT is a good skill to have...
One of the IT instructors at the CC where I adjunct only has a bachelors. He's the full-time tech guy there, though. He runs the websites, iTunes U, and a few other things. I'm not sure how much experience he has, though. He looks rather young. -Matt
I work for a regionally accredited 2-year technical college. A Bachelor's in CS is sufficient to teach IT courses at my school, and I'm sure that many other schools are similar. Though it might be a challenge depending on your location and whether you want to teach solely online.
