I want to do an online basic budgeting course for Goodwill. What topics do you think I should cover. My audience/students will be first job High school/Ged workers.

    1. Not spending more than you make.
    2. Setting some $ aside for a rainy day (Emergency fund)
    3. Delaying gratification - you do not need granite countertops and stainless steel appliances, or corvettes.
    4. Avoiding purchases on credit if at all possible- explain the usurious practices of some corporations.
    5. Getting a checking and savings account at a bank. (So that they can avoid check cashing services)
    6. Shopping smartly - look for coupons, store brand names and sales.
    7. Prioritizing requirements. What do you need most? What can you afford?
    8. The importance of not starting a family until you are more solvent, or if you have one already, of honoring your obligations.
    9. Low cost ways to further your education.
    10. Taking advantage of employer's benefits - health, 401K, etc.
    11. Setting some objectives. (This should be #2)
    12. Living for tomorrow. Make longer term goals. (college, trade school, business).
